When Hi-Sec POCO's came out, I stopped doing PI.

I could not be bothered to determine if the owners of the POCO deserved my money.

It was (and is) much simpler to not bother with PI in high sec.

How could CCP ever expect from you to put some effort in, or develop meaningfull relationships with other players, in their sandbox MMO? Not bothering with anything would be simpler, yes. So is ship spinning while you train skills instead of doing anything meaningfull. 'Simple' is simply not what Eve Online aspires to be. Believe me, taking down a POCO is not a great feat or anything, and the simplest structure bash there is (no forcefields, no speficic resists). If you cannot organize a POCO bash you have a social problem, not one of corporation size.

That bigger, stronger entities take a slice of tax and compete with each other for clientele is a healthy development. That people willing to actively engage and develop relationships are more successfull, fits the hypercompetative nature of the game. Corps compete enough in the POCO field to ensure tax remains low (most I see are below NPC taxes). So start interacting (or stop caring who you support) and making some :spacebux: or forever remain a 'commoner' that has to contend with the whims of feudal lords.
