I still have the 5770 and plan to rebuild the old rig as a backup

however, in the eve launcher I would select DirectX 9

I can run Skyrim fine. The FPS is low but it's at least 20-30 FPS during action. Have you got mods installed to reduce the memory hogging of the textures? The stock game was horribly optimized.

Actually no, iv been looking to upgrade so iv had more of a mind to just play less gfx intense games till iv the opportunity,
Yeah it is, it's actually unfinished. I'd recommend having a look at the skyrim nexus

and did you blow it out with an air can? hold the fan stable so you dont overspeed it, and work all the dust out.

I have a 5850 Black Edition - as old as the card is, I can still play most games that I want at 1920x1200 at fairly high settings. There are a few places on Borderlands 2/Payday 2 that cause a little bit of a judder but its not too much; just a FPS drop until I let the card catch up and even then its only by a few.

I regularly run EVE at full settings on interval 1 with 60 FPS constantly but again, with an exception or two: one being Blockade because of the silly placement of the dust clouds)

Reaver - If your 5770 is having issues running EVE, then I think that your card has broken either by overclocking or has suffered failure of one of the components on the card... my brothers GTX 210 was pumping out 125C at one point because of a broken fan and he wondered why EVE kept BSoD'ing his PC.. He got me to replace the fan and it works to a decent degree..

I find that using a cotton bud (Q-Tip) works wonders for holding a fan in place.

I had that same issue on Excalibur forums just yesterday!

Based on what my brother and you have told me, I'm not sure I was actually using the graphics card, even though it was running its fan and heating up. I have had to blow the dust out of it but it produced heat when it did get good airflow. Anyway, I'm fine with the onboard video. I'll keep the card in mind for any time I want to play anything graphics intensive.

Oh and I've been able to remember some of the more intensive games I can run on this thing:
Doom III
Dragon Age: Origins
Starcraft 2
Hard Reset
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Skyrim
Orcs Must Die
Tomb Raider Legend
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Vindictus
Kerbal Space Program

All of these games have stressed the computer to some degree but none have had any difficulty running on settings that look amazing to me. Those might be "low" settings but when I can see the individual hairs on someone's head, it's good enough for a game. Some of these games' minimum settings don't go low enough for me to tell the difference. In Kerbal Space Program, I used an addon to reduce the texture memory hogging by reducing the size of all textures by 1/4th as loaded into the cache. The only textures I could tell the difference on were little icons that displayed on the screen directly that got shrunk by the addon.
