Overall scale of EVE

Ok I have been thinking about this for a while and there are some scaling issues that I think could be improved. Yes the scale is EVE is HUGE which is awesome. But other than the actual size of the models and and the super capitals, things don't feel big.

For instance there is no recognizable objects on the ships or turrets/launchers for our brains to go AHHHHhhh yes... that's stupid big. And I know for sure one of the biggest killers of the scale is the guns. Both sounds and animation. Some of the medium pulse lasers sound like toys like someone is spitting and make weird noises through a straw. And BS turrets are......what, the size of houses? They don't warm up and the beam/projectile doesn't linger or anything. Its just kills it and makes it feel small. I think (for BS anyways) the rate of fire could be slowed down and damage multipliers adjusted to give more time between shots to give more effects like the warming up and the lingering beams and heat exhausts whatever make it look awesome and big. And the sounds, oh God please give things bass and make them sound BIG.

Another Idea is that EVERY ship should have a recognizable bridge. I often wonder where the bridge is just out of curiosity and also to give the ship its scale. On most ships I have no idea and a lot of ships look as though they do not have a bridge at all.

I know slowing down the ships and making them move slower would indeed make them feel bigger... but lets be real that would suck. SO SLOW. But one idea is to just tweak the inertia on the ships, cruiser and up, so they turn slower, so the overall speed is not messed with but the sense of scale is improved.

I think the high def texture packs will help a lot as well, whenever they come out. Being able to zoom way in and see the details will help. Maybe not in battle Big smile but at least in overall immersion.

I think EVE is fantastic and its going in the right direction and its a fantastic direction. This scale thing is in no way a horrible thing. But one of the majesties of EVE is the scale. So why not bring it to life, capitalize on it!

One would assume that the bridge, not that capsuleer ships even HAVE one, would be buried deep in the centre of the ship, with the thickest possible armour around it.

And please, don't nerf the mobility of ships for no reason.

When a turret or launcher "pops up" when you exit warp it has basically been "primed" and is ready to fire. Also... what is "linger" in the context of a weapon firing?

Balance issues. The high volley damage of artillery cannons is already much loved/maligned for a number of reasons... and many people would be against homginization of weapon sytles... myself inculed.

If I am flying a vessel that is prone to being shot at I would prefer NOT to have my bridge easily recognizable... otherwise people would shoot at that part first.

Thankfully though... we are capsuleers and control our ships from deep within their bowels (or close to) via neural link and thus have no need for a bridge (we basically replaced the need for most of the command crew).

I invite you to try flying a 1600 plate Prophecy... or triple-1600 plate Abaddon or Dominix... those things move like pregnant whales in cold molasses.

Also... balance issues. Agility is more important than speed and will decide how fast something can get into warp and/or get in range as sub-light speeds.

What I mean is for every round that is fired. Cannons on a battleship (naval vessel as in real life) have UMPH! You can tell they are big because they recoil a ton and you can feel the general mass. There is no force in the game it feels light and flimsy most of the time. And dont get me going on the sounds.... As far as linger I mean lasers should linger in space for a second instead of just disappearing instantly and hybrids should leave a trail of plasma or something. Missiles are great! Great explosions great trails. But again really only the Citidel launches feel big... Mostly because they move slow.

Im not suggesting that. What im suggesting is slowing down ALL fire rates. So the artillery would still have amazing alpha just even MORE and a longer fire rate.

I guess if you are going for realism then thats right, makes sense. Still think its weird :)

Yes I realize these things. It would take a while but its doable. Also another thought I had was that I think that being zoomed so far out all the time also kills the scale. Not much you can do about that.

Overall, i'm not sure this is a doable thing without changing a lot of game mechanics. So I doubt it will ever happen, but it really ruins the immersion at times. Halo 4 was HORRIBLE for this. Giant space ships moving exploding and spinning so fast. It really ruins the believeability of things.
