I've had this on my mind for sometime now i was thinking that only if the was a rig that increases ore hold size and decreases the cargo bay size.

now this will be for barge's and over mining ships but I'm not sure if it would be OP if you would let you put a rig like this on a capital industry ship like the orca

leave a comment on what you all think

I think that specialized holds are nicely balanced across the indy spectrum, and believe that ore hold on mining barges should remain affected by ship choice only.

There's room for growth in indy ships, but just throwing out a new rig or mod isn't the way to do it.

Wonder what the counter balance would be. Maybe a reduction in m3 mined per cycle/ ice cycle timer. Sure you can put more in your Mac total, but you'll need to be in belt longer to do so. Cargo size is too irrelevant most of the time to be a very good balance point

-10% Shield or Hull EHP as the drawback and I am 100% in favor.

It would be armour HP as an astrometrics rig.
Given the proportional effect of rigs (generally) and the relative size of the ore and cargoholds on the mining ships themselves, on all of the ships with ore holds except for the Orca in fact, substituting the -10% Armour HP for a -10% Cargohold would make for an insignificant penalty; even applying both (with armour as the drawback and therefore modified by skills and the Cargohold as a flat penalty) would probably barely feature in most people's cost/benefit analyses.
I suspect that the OPs aim is to make a Procurer more like a (current) Retriever, or to expand the Miasmos, and I would caution them to look at the Freighters...

Only problem is that miners could mine more ore/hr with less trips so they could make more isk, but then there would be more ore and the price would drop some, then you would be making the same isk/hr as before, this is the problem with any change to mining.

Good idea though, maybe it could be adapted to special holds on indys...

This may just be me, but I thought the whole point of them giving barges and exhumers ore holds was to eliminate the need to use cargo expanding mods/rigs so people would have more incentive to use tanking mods/rigs. That and the fact that the amount of ore anyone of them holds is meant to be a benefit or a drawback of picking that specific ship. Doesn't this idea kind of invalidate the whole point of ore holds on mining ships entirely?

That said, I rather like the idea of specialized holds on indies getting expanding rigs.
