Icelandic so I can converse with the gods in their native tongue.

I wonder what the ratio of actual Icelandic devs to non-natives is.

I took Technical French at university (French proficiency was mandatory, and I made the mistake of doing exceptionally well on the written placement test after declining the verbal test).

The Technical French professor had multiple doctorates and was published in many disciplines, including chemistry, physics (lasers), and marine biology (sharks specifically). Sometimes I wasn't sure she realized it was a language course. Our final exam topic was, "The Chemistry of Bread", i.e. the purpose of various chemicals, enzymes, and agents, used in the mass production baking of bread, all in French! I preferred the lessons on lasers!

I now live in a predominately French area of the city. I have a hard time exchanging basic pleasantries with my neighbours; I've forgotten nearly all my spoken French, though I can still read it well.

I also took Latin as an arts elective, as I also took Latin in highschool. We covered what I learned in 5 years of highschool in the first two weeks. We then dove deep into Latin poetry. To put it mildly: I did not enjoy that, nor do well.

I'd really like to learn Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. I'm too old and lazy now though.

This is just for fun. After seeing the post about French localization coming to EVE and the request for a French forum, I began to think about the language differences in this game, and how great it is playing with such an amazingly diverse player base. So my question is, to improve your game experience and enjoyment, what language would you want to know, beyond your native language. I ask this as someone who is mostly an English speaker (with some casual Spanish).

I would like to know Russian. They have a big player base and seem so foreign to me. Russia seems so foreign and different to me as an American and former service member.

What about you all? What language would you want to know, to better enjoy EVE?

I can speak English, german, French and Spanish. I'm European it's really useful.

Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction...

Well then OP, I hope you'll like that Vesna means "spring" in common Slavic. A russian derivative "veshnii" as something spring-related (as in, sun, thawing waters, etc.) also exists.

Icelandic and Russian.

And not so much for game reason, more because they seem like they'd be cool to learn.

Even from what little I understand about Icelandic's pronunciation I understand the devs' accents way better. Also I can say Eyjafjallaljökull :P

I'm from America and I would like to learn how to speak the British language. Blink

I did learn some spanish a while ago, but I've forgotten most of it because I never got a chance to use it. I have yet to come across a spanish speaking person in this game.

I'm currently learning Python, does that count? Blink

Beyond that though, for real life languages, I would probably go with French or Japanese. I currently speak English and a small amount of Spanish.

Wait, I'd definitely learn to speak Australian. Such a beautiful language!
