When I pay with PayPal I have an option to turn on recurring payments or not. If I recall it's a checkbox.

And what it does is just charge it directly from my moneys card. It's convenient.

I just undocked for the first time and someone challenged me to a duel. Wat do?

You gained the knowledge & provided consent when you signed up for a recurring subscription.

I also would like an option to disable autorenew without actually cancelling the sub.

Why? I want to support CCP! I have a buttload of accounts and they count for exactly 0 subscription numbers.

Perhaps this is their way of insuring investors that subscribers are actually paying customers.

It's just more financially viable for me.

Let's not be daft. Very few people - likely including yourself - actually read the EULA/TOS in games before they agree to it. As such there are many consumers who get tricked into these recurring subscriptions and don't realize it until they've been charged.

It's not just EVE. Microsoft do it too and they are worse... very sneaky with their wording (do everything in their power to make it not obvious).

It's just more financially viable for me.

When using auto sub I get an email on the day that my account has been resumed automatically.

How hard is it to mail me 1 day before that, that my account is going to be automatically re-billed?

It's called customer support, giving me a warning before hand so I can decide to let it run (do nothing) or cancel (get into account management and cancel the auto billing).

I cancelled the subscription and simply left "Switching to PLEX subscription" or something similar as my reason for cancelling. All that happens when you cancel is that the automatic billing is cancelled. Nothing happens to your account, and you maintain access for the entire time that you have already paid for.

You don't need to read either of those to know that you're signing up for a recurring subscription, since it is literally right in your face when you press the buttons.

Quote:
CHECKBOX: I understand that I am signing up for a recurring charge to my account.
Please note: You are signing up for a recurring Credit Card subscription and will be billed at the end of each time period until you cancel or change your method of payment.

You have to check the checkbox which contains this information to the right of it before you can pay money. Why should CCP pander to people that somehow manage to miss that?

The OP is not complaining about the subscription recurring unexpectedly, the OP was asking in an oblique way how to switch from automatically recurring subscription to manual subscription.

Some people just happen to take offence at service providers automatically debiting accounts without a warning. We now have the warning up in the top left of the character selection screen, but that only appears if you are on a non-recurring subscription and your last payment was made with PLEX.

Also of note: there are no longer GTC for EVE, only PLEX. So trade those existing GTC codes carefully, they are now a scarce commodity.

Don't worry. Every currently paid for and active account counts as a "subscriber".

Yes, finally someone gets it. I just want to have more control over my transactions. I probably did also check a box or two when I made my trial account back in 2012, but I can't remember what I pressed yes or no to.

Ask them what time it is, they tell you how to build a clock.

EVEMon has a subscription up warning built right in.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

No, everyone here "gets it". What they didn't get was your completely bogus claim that CCP is doing this without your knowledge or consent.

Are you a sad excuse for a troll or something? Of course CCP is stealing my money without my consent, as they never ask me when they take money out of my pocket. What I pressed yes or no to years ago is completely irrelevant.

WTF?!?!? CCP is not stealing your money, what you pressed yes or no to years ago is completely relevant. You accepted that it was a recurring payment years ago and now you're saying CCP is stealing your money? They have your permission to take the money, when you said yes all those years ago. Grow up.

I'm afraid that as far as subscribing to a paid service goes, it is very much relevant. You agreed to certain payment conditions. Which as you can read above, can be easily changed to something you prefer.

As the question has been answered correctly several times (Thanks GD!) I'm going to lock this thread, before it goes down in flames.
