I'm looking for a good location to dip back into null. I've been out since '09 and haven't got a clue anymore. Any support groups for the not-so-newfags who are coming back to see if the winter lives up to our expectations?

If you really are "not so new" you would know there is no support in eve just many levels of deceit.

Also in before goons

If you've been around for a long time, and have history with longstanding 0.0 groups, that will likely effect who you can get into on your non-anonymous alt. As you're using an alt, no one can give you specifically useful information, and as is general policy with dealing with 0.0, always assume that there's a lot of posturing and disinformation from all sides out there.

For the basics, start here: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/verite/influence.png

There are lot of names on that map, some old, some new. If you were out in 0.0 in 2009, you might recognize a few, and others that aren't so recognizable are reboots, splinters, or friends of some of the other organizations. For a basic rundown:

The West: The Clusterfuck Coalition is comprised of Goonswarm Federation, Test Alliance Please Ignore, and many other wonderful alliances. There are also a large number of smaller entities that live in the NPC west in Syndicate and Outer Ring (mores Syndicate). Without going into details, I'll say that from my firsthand experience that membership here is a good way to experience EVE on just about any level, with a large number of friends and enemies. I don't know all of the people that live in Syndicate, but I do know that I've seen a decent number from Anarchy, Rote Kapelle, and Rooks and Kings, to name a few. I think Pandemic Legion is living somewhere around here in low sec, but I'm honestly not sure.

The South: Right now the South is an enormous brawl between a large number of groups. Raiden. contains some remains of the old Band of Brothers (here's looking at you, Finfleet), Morsus Mihi and Brick Squad contain many bits of old Northern Alliances, AAA is still active in the Southeast, Nulli Secunda/Fail Cascade are another power bloc, and there's the German group comprised of EVOKE/EWOKS. Stain Empire/COVEN represent yet another group holding down here, and if that's not enough, Red. Overlord is hitting from the East, while the Clusterfuck Coalition is hitting from the West. If you want action, moving in here is not a bad idea.

The East: I'm least familiar with this area, as it's far from home, and I haven't been out this way much at all. Primarily comprised of Russian alliances and their renters (hi, Shadow of xXDeath), as well as various NRDS entities who've set up shop in the true sec and moon-mineral poor Catch and Providence (CVA comes to mind), the East is odd. Drone space is the source of most minerals in EVE right now, and as such is quite profitable, and there are some interesting internal politics here that I'm not terribly privy to, so if you know something I don't, it could be interesting. If your main doesn't have history with an organization with tarnished honor such as my own, the NRDS alliances in Providence will likely take you, and I've heard they get a fair amount of hostile action. I'm not sure if they've got good scouting, intel and reimbursement programs - they'd have to tell you about that.

The North is quiet these days compared to a few months ago. Recently, various Russian alliances combined with many entities now present in the South attacked from the Northwest to conquer the Technetium riches of the North from the alliances which had been living off them. The ones able to successfully resist are still up there. White Noise, a primarily Russian group took quite a bit of space, which they continue to hold, during this, as did Raiden. and NC. (Triumvirate under a new name). Intrepid Crossing also lives up here, in the fairly remote region of Cobalt Edge. As far as turf wars go, it's fairly quiet, but no one living up here really likes each other, aside from the Clusterfuck entities, and there are a few smaller groups living out of NPC areas like Venal. I suppose if you have connections with any of these groups, you could rejoin them.

Long story short: People living in 0.0 like to shoot each other. Good groups will have programs in place to help to make it easier for their members to do this. There are some good groups out there, and some really awful ones.
