This thread is a prime example of why NPC corp alts should not be allowed to post

It's not particularly fringe. It's an EVE-related website, and those have fallen under that justification since roughly forever.

Nah. They decide what qualifies as a real-world transaction, not RMT. Since the virtual goods are worthless (and not even owned by the people involved), that part isn't something the tax man has much say in at all.

Agreed.

However...history has taught us what happens to those that oppose powerful men.

I'm not referring to the isk, it's the entity receiving the RL goods or services (enriched party) that is subject to the tax man in the US.

CCP allows "news" sites and similar to operate and RMT at their pleasure, until they don't, as evidenced by changes made after the Somer fiasco.

There's a million angry citizens looking down their tubes..at me.

In a very round about way it could be ISK laundering, but you also have to remember that the website costs real money to run.

The big thing is that the transactions are very seperate. ISK is paid to writers. Artices are put on website. Website has ads that generate revenue.

Also, some of that revenue is then used to buy plex to pay writers as well as the real money cost of the website.

If you are earning real life money by trading virtual goods and not declaring it then HMRC (UK Tax Man) will be very interested.

HMRC couldn't give a toss what your trading. It can virtual goods, it could be shaven cats, it could used novelty condoms, HMRC only care that you declare your earnings so they can decide how much tax you have to pay

Also.. grrr goons Big smile

Oh sure. I'm merely pointing out that without the ISK, it's not RMT and that this part of the equation is beyond the reach of the tax officials. Like you hint at, if anything they're likely argue that you've (perhaps illegally) haven't been paid if all you get is a database change on CCP's servers.

The Somer fiasco was a bit of an odd bird since the things you bought directly resulted in Somer earning cash, and that this directly resulted in you getting something that looked suspiciously similar to an in-game currency. The series of exchanges that connect someone writing a piece for TMC to TMC getting cash and handing it out to people is a fair bit more arms-length than that.

Gary Barlow and others would like a word with you...

Seems to be that some folk only declare their wealth to the tax man after the fact so to speak.

RMT is what CCP say it is, no more no less.

This is not a signature.

So I'm an NPC alt now?

That's deeply offensive. You're not my friend anymore.

Wait, CCP kills kittens now too?!  - Freyya

Are you a forum alt? Have you ever wondered why your experience on the forums is always so frustrating and unrewarding? This may help.
