What do you all think about the Cerberus? I was thinking of using one with HAM launchers because it has both a missile velocity and missile flight time bonus that can give HAM launchers some pretty amazing range. I was looking at slapping on 1 T2 velocity and 1 T2 flight time rig as well. That would get me 54.7 KM range with max skills when using Rage, 65 using regular or faction, and 98 KM range using javelins.

Also, if I train for a Cerberus I would just have to train subsystem skills and I could fly a Tengu as well.

I am thinking about possibly going for a Mach and / or a vargur. How close do you have to be with AC's to be worth using over artillery? I looked at using large arty on the Vargur or mach, but it seems like I would end up in a long range sniping combat style and get bored like I did with sentry sniping. I want to be mobile.

I wonder how the new mordus BS would fair for L4's. They seem rather PVP focused with the point bonus and all.

If you want something both mobile and effective at L4s, Mach is definitely the way to go. However going for a Cerberus then a Tengu is a much better training plan for future PvP use while still being decent L4 mission runners, Battleships see far less use in PvP unless you're part of a large null alliance that uses BS as part of their doctrines. The Mordus BS really shouldn't be used for missions, the point bonus is completely wasted and it's not really doing anything that the other missile BS can't do either better or for cheaper.

Yeah, the only big deal with the mordus ships is the massive velocity bonus. combined with the flight time reduction it's only a 50% range boost, but the missiles reach the target a lot faster than on other missile boats. The mordus boats are also supposed to be almost as fast as Angel boats. Too bad torps suck so much or the mordus boats might be fun with torps.

The only thing the huge velocity bonus does for you in PvE is that you have to count volleys less, which is a really trivial thing considering the isk you're paying as well as what you're giving up not using a Navy Raven (explosion radius bonus) or a Golem (explosion velocity + tp bonus). The speed is definitely nice for missions, but once again, if you want something speedy the Mach blows all the competition out of the water, handles like a cruiser, hits like a battleship.

I just dug out my old Raven a bit ago and was reminded how boring cruise missiles are LOL! It's worse than sentry sniping.

I guess I'll just work on saving for a mach and train for T2 turrets for it.

When it comes to the Mach with Autocannons, do you have to use barrage to get decent performance or can you use faction close range ammo like fleet fusion. Also, what is the typical engagement range you would want to fight at for both ammo I previously mentioned. Would you fit just an afterburner to the mach for speed tanking, or do you need a MWD to get in range?

Also, with a Vargur do you pretty much jump to close range then turn on bastion and blast everything?

You may be pleasantly surprised with the Cerberus. I came back recently after a long time off, used to run lvl4 with tengu or nighthawk. After looking at the recent changes to heavy missiles, I put HAM's on a Cerb and with good skills and implants it seems considerably better in lvl4 than either the nighthawk or tengu, mostly due to the range bonuses. 600+ dps with t1 scourge HAMs, and a pretty good tank, 45 to 55 range depending on rigs. The only trouble I had over the course of 5 or 6 missions was not paying attention and letting myself get neuted and having to warp out, not much buffer if the cap runs dry.

Did you run an afterburner or a MWD? Did you use any target painters? How did it do against frigs?

ive been away for a minute, but i was inna similar situation before i left. to combat boredom i built a crazy Sacrilege fit. T2 hams, max 20km distance i think....i dont have access to any fits on this lappy, but as i recall it was cap stable with either the repper or the mwd just not the two at the same time, it was fun and fast as hell, and i powered through several L4 mish with my friends. and, it looks cool too ;)

kill em all.
