Many new players seems to underestimate the cruiser class ships, but in fact they are the most diverse and effective class of ships, particularly their T2 versions.

Obviously you don't PVP - 75% of mt PVP ships are cruiser sized.

He's referring to T1 cruisers.

yes, perhaps. I eas going off of the title of the thread.

This is just silly. Although the point about destroyers does have merit.

arbi, caracal, rupture, and bb are all very effective PvP cruisers, and getting into faction the SFI and Vigilant are good and the Cynabal is one of the best ships in the game. A properly flown cyn can even go toe to toe with a lot of BC fits.

I also have seen ships like the celestis and bellicose be very effective, although personally I am not a fan.

I was indeed referring to T1 cruisers. Thanks to insurance, the price gap between those and battlecruisers is so small it's basically pointless to fly them.

Quote:
arbi

Versatile fitting-wise but generally overrated, only really shines at killing frigates and a very lengthy list of ships do that better.

Quote:
Caracal

Only good at killing frigates, and will be facing much tougher competition for that role soon.

Quote:
Rupture

Completely obsoleted by battlecruisers.

Quote:
SFI, Vigilant, Cynabal

Are not T1 cruisers and are in fact worth using.

The Bellicose doesn't do anything worth mentioning (besides being a surprisingly workable level 2 runner), and the Celestis is inferior to the Blackbird.

Shockingly enough, flying the best ships in PvP isn't always the best plan. Cruisers are great at getting fights that you wouldn't get in a BC - I'm a particular fan of the Celestis.

This isn't to say that they aren't overshadowed for the most part by BC's, but they certainly have their niches and the game is better off for this diversity. Simply removing the tier system and giving all cruisers as many slots/fttings as the highest tier would go a long way to making more of them viable.

All of the races have good T1 cruisers. You should always have a few lying about. I personally love vexors. You can do anything with them.

I use Vexors for:

High-sec loot shuttle for goods I dont want ganked.
Nano fit for lowsec movement
Safespot making/Scouting/Wormhole and other probing (with a cloak)

Missions of course (when I did them)
FW solo medium plexor (armor or shield). (I have to warp out once on one tough one.) Still has some ability to defend itself in PVP too.

PVP frig killer
General purpose/Solo PVP (blasters or projectiles)
Neut Vexor
700+ dps ganker

And dont tell anyone, but I actually mined with it (Once!). I think it was my only time to mine after the intro.

Even rigged and fully T2 fit, the whole thing costs you about ~15M or so before insurance I think? Love the Vexor.

Combat T1 cruisers are all basically obsoleted by the Hurricane, which can normally be fit to have more, better-tracking DPS on a faster hull with more EHP. The non-Blackbird ewar cruisers are basically less effective than a Drake with meds filled up with ewar.

But despite my criticism of T1 cruisers, this is absolutely the truth.

I'm buying a full set of SLAVE implants tonight with Akemon's 8%.

Total of 61% armour HP increase?

I'm going to be flying an Omen Navy Issue with it... so I'm probably getting 7000 armour x 61% = 11270 armour HP?

If I fly a Harbinger, I get like 30k HP.

Abaddon... hoho... 51k.

This, all the upcoming changes won't make a damn of a difference to this little beast :)

Now if only it could engage on a gate with some success, but I guess that be asking for to much :)

In general though cruisers are nice and cheap good for low risk pvp, new players and some of them are outright scary if fitted well.

Vexors and arbitraitors are the two most effective ships killing canflippers with. As a carebear who mines making canflippers cry should be a pretty high priority for you.

I am able to fly all races ships up to Capital and I have to say I really like the Arbitrator and the Vexor. I do still fly them mainly because most people look on them as easy prey so you get fights alot easier.

T2 variants ususally scare the crap out of people so they will either A) Not fight at all or B) Get a blob to make sure you are dead.

T3's just get blobbed.

The Arbi isn't just for killing frigates. I've taken on and killed BC's in mine. A couple of TD's and you will ruin any turret ship's day.

I can fly every cruiser in the game bar hictors, and yes they are extremely versatile if you have the isk and skills, for PVP I fly Cane and Croozers only cause they are that fun.

The standard cookie cutter arbi:

1x Med neut II
3x Small neut II

1x 10MN ab
1x TD
1x Scram

1x 800mm plate
2x EANM II
1x DCU II

3x Ergres stuff rigs

2 flights of meds, 2 flights of light or 1 flight of lights 1 flight of ecm your pick.

Few BC like to fight this one :) only the cane can be a bit of an issue, but even than in general you are fine. Harbi and Brutix are just death without hope. Also great against those pesky drams, wait for them to get close and poof they go without any cap no ability to mwd.

So yeah T1 cruisers keep em around, cheap, fun, deadly and as said above people see them as prey instead of the hunter.

All I fly are cruisers and battlecruisers for pvp. Pve = yes your cruiser is now pointles. Pvp = cheap but can kill all the frigs/destroyers/faction frigs/other cruisers (depending on how you fit it).. In the end if you lose a cruiser it isn't a big deal.
