even more so when most communication is digital and you can quite easily stop being involved with whatever it is that 'offends' you.

The sky is falling? We're talking GD, right? ...oh wait no, C&P Roll uh-duh? It's more competitive there.
Where was the bit about CCP wondering why players are not using forums or whatever? Actually that can be a good thing... Straight

New people who have trouble on the forums generally don't spend enough time lurking to catch the flow or to understand the community.. then they end up making a post that either doesn't get a response or doesn't get the response they expected and they go away disappointed. The forums, like anything EvE, takes effort to figure out.

People also make mistakes. Forms, like EVE, forget that.

I think the majority of EVE players are fairly mature and that it can't really be classed as a game for 'children'. The vast majority of replies to OPs in most of the boards will be civil even if they are inaccurate information Blink . The 'General Discussion', and to a lesser extent the 'Crime & Punishment' boards do not apply to this statement though and this is known by regular posters.

Therefore it is unfortunate if new players, players who are new to the forum, or people who do not have full knowledge of the English language make OPs in the G.D. or C&P boards. I don't foresee the behaviour changing in these two forums so make a 'sticky' should be added to both of them.

Something like:

'Shark infested waters. You will encounter extremely black humour and sarcasm in this board. You have been warned.'

" They're gonna feel pretty stupid when they find out. " Rick. " Find out what ? " Abraham. " They're screwing with the wrong people. " Rick. Season four.   ' The Walking Dead. ' .

no-no you insert it like that, deep, then give it a a sharp twist, yeah like like that you hear the bones crack. Makes the makes the blood squirt and bleed out faster. yeah yeah that's the idea.

But seriously, it's like the spelling police on steroids. If we post here, maybe this will be his next few "troll" examples for him, immortalized, win-win Lol

This is a great example of why most players who come on the forums to discuss an idea or ask a question never return after their first time or second time. In the larger picture incidents like this are what cause players to keep to themselves and their cliques instead of getting involved with the community much past that.

There needs to be harsher penalties for this kind of trolling and disrespectful behavior, it contributes to much of the isolationist attitudes in the game which ultimately lead to lost subscriptions and $$$ over time.

What happened in that thread was not discussion, it was not criticism, it was not even innocent trolling. What happened in that thread was a group of angry men getting their rocks off at another person's expense.

If CCP had a dislike button we could dislike all the retards and their stupid bullshit and we wouldnt have to post to inform them of the fact that they're ********. Until this button gets added the only way to help people realize they're dumb is to call them out in their topics.

lol i like how the forum filters out reta rded but not retards.

They do have a dislike button. It's labled ignore. Most people wont ignore others because they are afraid they will miss out on a chance to troll somone.

Sometimes newer players are treated a bit too harshly. It's hard to differentiate between new and old players if both use NPC alts to post. Queries which are silly, in the wrong place or answered in existing threads should just be reported, there is usually no need to go mental over genuine rookie errors.

The thread you linked isn't a good example because it wasn't even a topic for discussion. He should have just petitioned it. Within 4 replies, he declared "I really hate people like some of you" which is just asking to start a massive argument. This type of query is not innocent and always masks some sort of agenda. Usually the urge to engage in a massive rant.

Markus45 I'm not sure if you are a new player, but based on your comments you look like an older player choosing to hide behind an NPC alt (for whatever reason) with the specific purpose of ranting in various threads. You've been doing it all week. Much like the person you cite, creating topics purely to abuse both the playerbase and people on the forums, which is basically rule breaking. It's a shame the playerbase turns ugly doing it but if someone gets in their face and starts shrieking, not particularly surprising.

People like you using what look to be starter alts to post compound the problem for newer players. Take some responsibility.

If my "community" the OP means "the forums", well, a lot of people leave here wishing they never came.

But I've been a moderator on other forums were we removed general discussion and the trolls vanished like ghosts at dawn.

I have reported several dozen posts over time that break the EULA and I have unfortunately not seen much done, ever, to these people. I do not want to judge the ISDs or the work they do, so I won't.

Rather, I will now state that each time I see a EULA breaking post I will report it via the petition system to the GMs.

Much like ISD LackOfFaith, I will let edge cases stay, but anything clearly offensive and non-constructive will be petitioned. All members - trolls and bullies specifically - would be best to familiarize themselves with the EULA and forum rules once again.

http://community.eveonline.com/support/policies/eve-tos/

You may not use any abusive, defamatory, ethnically or racially offensive, harassing, harmful, hateful, obscene, offensive, sexually explicit, threatening or vulgar language. (Alternate spelling or partial masking of such words will be reprimanded in the same manner as the actual use of such words.)

You may not organize nor be a member of any corporation or group within EVE Online that is based on or advocates any anti-ethnic, anti-gay, anti-religious, racist, sexist or other hate-mongering philosophies

You may not use “role-playing” as an excuse to violate these rules. While EVE Online is a persistent world, fantasy role-playing game, the claim of role-playing is not an acceptable defense for anti-social behavior. Role-playing is encouraged, but not at the expense of other player. You may not create or participate in a corporation or group that habitually violates this policy.

https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Forum_rules

2. Be respectful toward others at all times.

The purpose of the EVE Online forums is to provide a platform for exchange of ideas, and a venue for the discussion of EVE Online. Occasionally there will be conflicts that arise when people voice opinions. Forum users are expected to be courteous when disagreeing with others.

4. Personal attacks are prohibited.

Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts that are designed to personally berate or insult another forum user. Posts of this nature are not beneficial to the community spirit that CCP promote and as such they will not be tolerated.

5. Trolling is prohibited.

Trolling is a defined as a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting other players in an attempt to incite retaliation or an emotional response. Posts of this nature are disruptive, often abusive and do not contribute to the sense of community that CCP promote.

6. Racism and discrimination are prohibited.

Racism, gender stereotyping and hate speech are not permitted on the EVE Online Forums. Derogatory posting that includes race, religion or sexual preference based personal attacks and trolling can result in immediate suspension of forum posting privileges.

7. Use of profanity is prohibited.

The use of profanity is prohibited on the EVE Online forums. This includes the partial masking of letters using numbers or alternate symbols, and any attempts at bypassing the profanity filter.

18. New player bashing will not be tolerated.

New members of the EVE Online community are encouraged to use, but are not restricted to the EVE New Citizens Q&A forum. This forum is specifically designed to provide a platform for those who are new to the EVE community to ask questions and learn more about EVE. More experienced forum users are encouraged to participate by assisting new players with helpful and courteous responses. All flaming, trolling and posts of a derogatory nature will be deleted, and will be considered a severe breach of the forum rules.

22. Post constructively.

Negative feedback can be very useful to further improve EVE Online provided that it is presented in a civil and factual manner. All users are encouraged to honestly express their feelings regarding EVE Online and how it can be improved. Posts that are non-constructive, insulting or in breach of the rules will be deleted regardless of how valid the ideas behind them may be. Users are also reminded that posting with a lack of content also constitutes non-constructive posting.

You missed one:
17. Impersonation of another party is prohibited.

Forum users are strictly prohibited from impersonating any other party on the EVE Online forums. This includes but is not limited to ISD volunteers, CCP employees, CCP partners and other forum users. This also includes suggesting that an employee of CCP or an ISD volunteer will perform a task for you.
