Just downloaded EFT using EFT2134zip and now when I open File, Open Ship Browser, all ship boxes are empty.

Have you tried searching for a ship by typing the name in the search box?

I think there's an EFT thread as well.

IIshira asked if I had tried to type in a ship name in the box. No I didn't because I got the error "invalid index" when clicking on the empty boxes, so not able to actually type anything at all.

I have saved all the ship fits from the previous version onto a memory stick so the data is available. Now I just need to find the method of connecting the updated software with the old data.

One of the difficult things with trying to fix this is that it is a private program and other people who might normally attempt to fix something like this, are hesitant to do anything that might be construed as changing the actual software.

Well hopefully the author will chime in with his suggestion soon. Thanks for yours.

I save my ship fits every time I update EFT. I don't think the program designer cares if you do that. Perhaps you saved the wrong file? Maybe you saved the file that has the ships? I'm not at my computer but when I get on I'll look to see what folder you need to save.
