Question to Steam users.
I just saw on Steam that you can play Eve from there. When you log from Steam, do you log to the same general server, or there are private servers like in Rust, for example? And can Eve be played on private servers at all?

Ty. Do you know if it is possible to play it on a private server?

Why would you even want to play on a private server? With EVE of all things?
EDIT:
Answer is no.Straight

No! Some years back there was an attempt, but it was quickly squashed.. as it should be.

As for steam EVE, best not to. Has too many account limitations. I think one was not being able to transfer characters, unless that's changed...

Thanks for the answer.
Well, the reason is as all the other games, to choose what you play and with whom you play. I only like economy part of eve, so private server could have been a solution.

Thanks. Do not agree with the part about 'as it should be' though, but anyway.

But the economy is player driven. If you played on a private server, you'd have no economy.

EVE on a private server would be horrible. You would have people that were friends with the GM/Admin getting all sorts of stuff for free. like free SP, or free T2 BPOs. I can only imagine what else would be wrong. horrible bugs that would plague the game... I am glad there is not private servers.

No, it's bad business. CCP isn't some huge AAA developer that can just absorb the revenue loss, just a little loss would hurt development enough to be noticed. Go take that player server attitude to WoW player servers ------------------->
(or player servers for dead games, those are ok imo - apart from their often toxic communities)

Private server doesn't mean it is a solo server. I can play with friends or with people who want the same stuff from the game as myself.
Besides those 2 reasons I mentioned, I would also like to have 'a fresh start'. Meaning clean world with just BP and rookie ships. Atm I am always having a feeling about eve, like i joined when the party is already over. Even in the economy part anywhere you go, everything is already claimed, divided, owned by someone. Market is overflooded. Guess I have just missed my time in this game.

I never played WOW, but people here mention it so often that I may try one day. RE loss, I do not see any losses to the games that offer that option. On the other hand, all those who cancel their accounts atm may be interested to continue subscriptions with that option.
But I am not much on the technical stuff, so maybe it is a problem with that in eve. Anyway, sorry to hear it is not available here.

Not really, it's just harder for newer players to compete. The industry changes are helping to address that and put all players on a more equal footing.

That is not true. I am playing other games like that and yes some servers are bad, but no one forces anyone to play there. Some servers are very decent, besides you can always get your own server.
Private servers also do not mean that there are no official servers. They exist and majority of people still play there. Private is just an option for the people who cannot find their place in the official version or want to try or implements some different stuff.

The main reason we don't want to an EVE private server is that anyone close to the GM/admin can have full sway on the game. Like say I have a private server and I got RL ganked by my wife because she got ganked in her Mackinaw for afk mining and demanded I give her some QA shield extenders. If I gave her the said modules it won't be fair for the other players.

Also if you want something in eve and someone is already sitting on it you better get off your station undock and shoot them to get it. That's how I get my LP in FW. Evict the other guy from the plex.

Well, yes I agree to some extent and I know what you mean. But it is just a general feeling, do not really know how to explain that. When you come to play game that is still is Beta for example, the whole world is still new and everyone is on the same level. Something like that, not sure if I can make myself clear on this, it is just a general 'feel' in the game

Grab/join some peeps and go claim a wormhole (wormhole space). Sounds more like what you are looking for.

As for being on the same level, this isn't a level progression game. Some months of training and you can be going head to head in the same ships with a 10yr vet pretty much equally matched... at least in needed SP for the ship. Being around longer just means you can fly a larger variety of ships mostly.

I guess i have already answered that in my previous post, but why do you always assume it would be bad? I personally would never give anyone any advantages including myself if I owned a private one. Just because the game loses all interest with cheating. Well, for me at least. And there are many people who feel the same way. Those who want most advantages to themselves are usually kids 13-15 years old. At least it is what i see in the other games i am playing.

So in other words you don't want to exert effort to compete with other players who made the effort to be better in the same game as you are?

You miss my point it seems. I do not like pvp aspects of the game. Claiming wh means you have to defend it afterwards. Besides I always feel like i am locked up when in a wh.
Well, I do not really want to argue about those private options. I do realize it is just for maybe a limited number of players. But still, it would offer a good opportunity to those who are quitting a game now. Lol, just saying:-)
