They make these awesome trailers; not only does nothing in Eve actually look like that, no one ever flies like that, in formations like that, in battles like that.

Sucks.

Even massive missiles like torpedoes look pathetic.

Yeah I miss the old blue flashes, like when a dread or archon (lol) exploded. Not to mention the old torp effects. I dont understand why they made them less appealing.

Re-watching the old Day of Darkness II video, I was reminded again of how much more real and powerful the old ship explosion effects looked compared to the current "bubblegum burst" animation.
We either need that animation back, or preferably an entirely new effect to replace the current poor visuals that do not live up to the rest of EVE's graphics standards.

Dear Devs, look at the best ships explosions in gaming history made in 2002:

The game is Hegemonia: the legions of iron. Watch and learn Big smile. BTW also hire the guy who made the soundtrack for this game. Its pure genius. THe EVE music sounds like a funeral on drugs.

YES. These are the explosions we need! Except, you know, even prettier, because this is EVE.

Self destruct needs to be massive also, dealing damage to those in proximity.

Ooh, this brings up another point - should exploding ships damage other ships? I can see this being really annoying, but it adds to the immersion and simulation.

no. not because its annoying, but because it can be exploited to hell and back.

I like the idea.

However I'm not too keen on how it would be exploitable. Please explain some of the exploits you perceive this system to have in the future.

And if by "exploit" you mean tactical targeting based on proximity, then this sounds amazing!!! Anti-blob mechanics!!!!

I want my old mjolnir torpedo back!! The scatter effects on those we're amazing! Why the f*** did they even change them? They look like small farts now compared to what they used to. My bomber is on strike until they start looking sexy again

Bubblegum pops are what I expect, probably because I understand what a vacuum is and I don't worship Michael Bay as the fount of all visual effects innovation.

Big explosions coming from small ships with a trifling amount of recycled atmosphere and ammunition kept inert by vacuum storage for safety purposes would break my immersion.

If it wasn't guaranteed to murder the servers and graphics cards alike, I'd ask for better debris animation. Watching random missiles sputter around in curlycues into the sunset wouldn't be so bad, but Hollywood explosions in space are just silly.

In past threads, whenever I mentioned "immersion", "reality" and alike, there was always someone, generally being more than one person who just remind me that EvE is more like a submarine simulator.

I really laughed when you say Michael Bay worshipping part, but unfortunately, there is no spoon (vacuum) in Eve :D It just seems so.

I'm up for debris animation, and I'm also up for big explosions. I know that I will overdo it as always I do :D, but there are supernovas, which can be considered as a big nuclear reactor explosion. Every ship has a nice reactor, and it should explode with a nice fashion.

I'm also up for damaging explosions, but it is for another game ;) EvE is "Exploits versus Everyone" :P

There's nothing to fix in the game so let's allocate all available resources into creating the most spectacular explosions any gamer has ever seen. My vote goes to rainbow colored explosions that slowly turn into Andy Warhol's face.

I agree. Some of the explosions are little more than a firecracker. It at least needs to be more random, where some ships just break apart, and other have a massive explosions if their magazines or fuel bay is full. Self destruct needs to be massive also, dealing damage to those in proximity.

i'd like to see a sort of "shockwave" when a ships goes boom, like we used to have on the old torp's animation

I agree completely with the op. I saw a providence explode recently and the transition from ship to capital wreck was jarring. The explosion needs to be large enough to cover the model switch at the very least.

Agree

We should also add unique wrecks for sub-caps. I know someday eve will want this too because having a fully immersive battlefield with scorched wrecks for ships killed with lasers and exploded wrecks for those killed with explosive damage exc.... will give the game another layer of realism that is needed for a true blue sifi space sim.
