I suspect it may end up a little like 'Quantum Rise' era (if memory serves correctly) where there was a 'Classic' and a 'Premium' client variant of the graphics, but even that only lasted a couple of expansions before one was retired off.

But how they find a solution to keep the Mac client going with official support of the newer features of DX11 I do not know, unless it falls behind using DX9 dropping all new graphics related feature until cider catches up or somewhere in the future the rewrites of old code touch on the graphics engine and look to start down the road of openGL.

We can only hope, but I suspect it will come down to the user base install numbers that may sway any decisions in that area. (Given Liunx installs are most likely hidden in the WinXP users via wine, it will come down to the ratio of Mac & WinXP vs Win7/8 unless CCP uses a way to collect more accurate install data)

I'm pretty sure CCP know the numbers of their linux install base as wine can be detected easily enough, but even if the install base is hidden in the XP numbers that still adds to the XP numbers. XP users are far more screwed than we are as they will never get DX11. It's possible that wine will support it before eve goes entirely DX11.

I was going to say that I haven't been able to find DX11 for XP systems. I thought I was doing something wrong. Maybe not. Big smile

Direct3D 11 is only supported on Vista to Win8, which is why you see a lot of new games requiring Vista/Win7 or newer. I can understand why people aren't upgrading to Win7/Win8 as I'm running Linux in large part due to a desire never to have to reinstall windows ever again.

Former forum cheerleader CCP, now just a grumpy small portion of the community.
