Inactive Cloak warning

Decloaking proximity alarm (bads arrive on grid, cans you didn't notice, blah, blah). Say 5km?

Needs a button to turn the jukebox on.

FT Diomedes: "Reaver, sometimes I wonder what you are thinking when you sit down to post."

Maybe you guys can give my early brainstorm draft in the blogpost a read through and add your suggestions for what sort of things you'd want to have audio warnings for to this thread?

Sure thing. Off the top of my head:

Industry:

- Anything has finished, PI or a job, think of it as audio blinking.
- A marketorder has been completed

Industry/mining:

- Cargo hold is full (there is even an aura sound already not sure why it's not being used)
- Target status for asteroids, gas clouds and ice - as in the blog, mostly that they have been depleted.

Exploration:

- new Signature/Anomaly detected

Missioning:

- Objectives complete

General:

- Gate cloak deactivating.
- There are new fleets available
- You are getting boosts from the fleet
- A ping for new messages in a chat

This is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for! I hadn't even considered not-in-space notifications prior to this post. cheers!

An in game option for a jukebox is not the same as an out of game Soundcloud, but you already know that. Smile

THIS^^^

Maybe if we all just post over and over again 'Needs more Jukebox' they'll get the message. We've had thread after thread demanding it back, and while none are thousand page threadnoughts, we want to know when this feature will be returned to us.

Achem:

Needs more Jukebox.

no, the person who made the decision won't be affected ;)

I don't get why anyone would want the in-game jukebox back. It was so bad. And it was such a waste of dev time. Every single patch it was breaking for people. If you want to play your own mp3's, shouldn't you already have your libraries and playlists put together in a more specialized mp3 player? You know you can run EVE in a fixed window mode where it looks like fullscreen but can alt-tab out to mp3 players and web browsers (*cough pandora cough*) easily?

despite of a total list of the individual volume setting, would it be better separate into groups? or an on/off option for a group?

for example :
environmental (wormhole, map, PI etc.)
ship related (turret, jump gate, booster, modules, impact, etc)
UI (UI, radial)
Alert (locking, crimewatch, ambulance, etc.)

We can still click the individual boxes to switch on/off, and more options to turn a group of them on/off with one click

it gives us a quick way to turn them off, instead of browse through the list and click those boxes one by one

if the space in the option menu is not allowed, it would be better the arrange the order in the list according to their related area

I did consider grouping them. for now, they won't be, but I might do so in the future.
It's easy to say how this should be done and how this should not be done, but one thing that is important to know is trust between us, players to devs.

it may sound stupid, but please have confidence in that this is not something I just put in and will leave alone and never touch again. It may have been underestimated by many pre-fanfest (the people who knew about it) - but the cheer we got at fanfest was (almost) the size of Scarpia saying everything should be destructible.

I see it, not only as my job, but as my duty, that as long as I am around, putting sound back into EVE. not just as a thing where MORE audio will come, but also customization, availability, tweaking and other things.
Like I said in a previous post, I get it where "EVE has sound" comes from, and I too laugh at it and say it, but I grew so tired of hearing it all the time and really wanted to come up with something that would make it go away or become a thing of the past.

The jukebox, is not coming back. it's not my decision neither to make it come back nor to have it go away in the first place, and though I didn't use it myself, I can sort of see what it is you want with it, but if it ever was to come back - it would be in a different form than the previous one.

Frankly I still haven't seen an answer to what's so wrong with the jukebox that it has to be perma-banned from the game ?

Good question. and don't laugh when I will now use words like procedural and generated music.
It was taken out, for some of these reasons, the overall view was that having music dependent on sec rating, faction etc. was more important. (some say it's because it was used as a python code inlet for botting, but that simply isn't try - at least not the reason it was taken out) This would then be told to be adaptive, procedural generated music.
the only problem was that the music / grains used for making the music was the old tracks, meaning that you would get the same tracks over and over again in certain areas of space and not being able to listen to "below the asteroids" when you were in null-sec was made impossible.

it took a while, but they are working on a system that will take out all the old tracks and put in a new way of generating music on the fly. This will also make the music system able to change on very small parameters, like; players on grid, yellowboxing, type of system, amount of players in system, hostiles in system, bla bla bla bla. etc.
It's quite interesting, though I do also see the point in having a system where this current system and the old jukebox system could hold hands.

like, playlists: choose your playlist for null-sec. hi-sec whatever.
these are just ramblings and like I said, it's out of my hands as it is right now.

EDIT: Not actually physically shoot you in the face, do NOT send the Woop Woop around to my house. O7

Don't worry, I'll send a killmail todaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.
And thanks for saying hi, it was great - also in the bar, I think I left my brain at my desk before I went out, because I was hardly coherent at the end of the night.

Nothing says "I love you" - like a kill mail. ;) all of you.

This. is was also one of the reasons it was taken out, it was kind of bad and you can play tracks on your own. we have a soundcloud page with all the tracks and we (before we took out the jukebox) received hundreds of complaints about it being there because people used their own. so it's two fold.

If we are talking sound enhancements, then I have a minor wiggle, which has bugged me since forever:

My favorite piece of EVE music among CCP RealX' masterpieces is "Theme Of The Universe". Unfortunately it seems to me like absolutely every copy of this score, which CCP has published over time, has a technical flaw. This include the high quality files on Soundcloud:

In two distinct phases there are some high pitched scratching or crackling noises, which sounds a bit like dust on a LP record, though it is more regular and 'digital' sounding. The 'dust noise' doesn't seem like it is an intentional part of the score. The first phase starts at 02:18 and lasts until 03:10, with the most obvious problems appearing from 02:50 to 03:10.

The second noisy phase runs from 05:31 and until 06:08.

I have tried lowpass filtering the audio, but any filtering able to eradicate the noise ruins the treble far too much to be an acceptable solution. Is there any way to bribe nudge CCP RealX into revisiting this piece of music, and remastering it as appropriate, please? (*)

Please note this issue may not be immediately obvious without both good hearing and a pair of high quality headphones.

Thanks.

(*) Wonder what his favorite poison is...? (Offer only valid if attempts at bribing the devs isn't considered against the ToS.Blink )

A distinctive warning for being decloaked would be very nice

Distinctive sound when a module turns itself off (sometimes its hard to notice this in the heat of battle, like when a scrambler is slightly outside its range and turns off)

Distinctive sound when a module gets overheated past X amount
