At this rate there will be no asymmetrical ships left in EVE... Sad

We will always have:

Velator, Incursus, Imicus, Atron, Catalyst, Thorax, Exequror, Celestis, and Thanatos.

Except all of these ships are also due for a redesign.

There has already been concept art shown for a symmetrical Imicus. For the lovers of the asymmetrical the Atron concept art was still slightly off symmetry so I wouldn't worry that CCP is going overboard.

As much as I think the new Moa is cool I personally would have thrown it off balance just a little bit as an homage to the old design. But the new ships really fits in more with the Caldari capitals and the new Caldari ships from the past few years. Now they just have to finish off the rest of the cruisers and frigates that are in bad shape.

To be honest the people who do not like the change are just nostalgic about them.

Wrong. Their preferences are just different than yours. I like the design of my Gila/Moa just the way it is. It's not nostalgia that I like abstract art. I like the design of the current Moa because it is interesting to me. The new one is boring to me. Too predictable.

Edit:
I've posted an idea in Features & Ideas entitled Access to Older Ship Models on the Noble Exchange and I'd like your support if you prefer some of the older designs.

If you like any of the older ship models (original artwork) better than the redesign of your favorite hull and don't want them to be lost forever, support ship customization and this feature request.

You are correct. However, it's unfortunate (for you specifically) that you are in a tiny minority when it comes to loving the current Moa's design. Naturally CCP leans towards pleasing the masses.

I like your suggestion about accessing older ship models, though it seems like a lot of extra work for CCP that they likely won't perform. But I'll still toss my name in the hat for support.

I'm bracing myself for the VAST amount of Moas and Gilas in highsec that are gonna be called Firefly and Serenity. It'll be funny at first, but then like a clown with an ageing problem, it'll get old quickly...

I like all of them better, and I agree with the guy that said the Typhoon looks a bit like some of the Tengu configurations. This might be a dumb question, but will the Gila look like the new Moa, or keep the old design? I hope it looks like the new one, because its the main ship I fly right now and I think its ugly.

Almost for sure the Gila will have the new design.

Awesome, I love the new design. Hope youre right!

The Gila is getting it's own model at some point down the line. AFAIK this is the plan for every single ship in EVE.

The stealth bombers are the best example of this: You can see the DNA of the ship they're based on, but they have their completely own look.

Marauders also count here, up to a point - While they diverge less from their t1 counterparts, they still have their own models.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

New Typhoon - Looks ok.
New Moa - Looks good, but its not a chicken with a briefcase anymore.
New Condor/Crow/Raptor - This one I like.

What do you folks think?

EDIT: New Dominix!

I totally am loving the new Moa (of course a featureless brick would look better than the current look) and I am loving that Condor!

I am disappointed.

My space trashcan is just becoming a big tengu.

I really don't like this trend of losing duct tapes for shiny plates on matari ships.

Is it just me or does the moa look closer to the ship Serenity from Firefly/Serenity... I liked the moa's functions may like to fly it a bit more in it's new design... Also agree that raptor now looks better...

To be honest, the minority that are displeased with the new moa designs are just that... a vocal minority.

People who are satisfied with the new designs, and approve of them would likely be happy and move on, but those that felt so strongly about the new designs would definitely post about it in this thread, that's the only reason we see any outcry.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with making ships symmetrical, symmetricality is something that is seeded in our subconscious, for the majority of humans symmetrical things are more attractive than the other, our choice in partners, our choice in cars, our decisions and thoughts are subconsciously influenced by patterns and symmetry. What?

Scientific studies have proven multiple times over that symmetry is something that appeals to humans, but the studies have also proven that this isn't the case for everyone, there are those who are subconsciously attracted in ASymmetry as well, even if they are a minority. P

Less you forget smaller ships are fully capable of entering a planet's atmosphere, the old moa design would have meant a 1000% increase in fuel needed to fly lol

Nope, lore-wise any alloy containing Tritaniumis too unstable at atmospheric temperatures. Pretty much everything in Eve is made of Trit, so no, they can't enter atmospheres :P

The groundlings on the planets couldn't handle the swag of a new Gila anyways, let them do their mortal stuff there and keep the fancy ships to us in space. :)

You realise of course that space is both much hotter and much colder than atmospheric temperatures?

Without taking into account the massive heat generation of something like a spaceship full of railguns.
