Any flight simmers out there?

Just curious how many, if any flight simmers we have here? I'm currently playing DCS: World and love it. Has the most highly detailed aircraft I have ever seen.

I have been a big flight sim fan for years, ever since I was a kid. From WWI to modern day, I have played and liked them all.
Have played just about everything that has came out over the years as well. Here are a few I have played in the past.

Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe

A-10 Tank Killer

Mi-24 Hind

Su-27 Flanker ( Su-27 Flanker 2.0)

Red Baron 3D

Longbow I & II

"Falcon" Series

Microsoft Combat Flight Sim 1, 2 and 3

Jane's F-15

Jane's F/A-18

Jane's IAF

Jane's USAF

Il-2 Sturmovik

Lock On: modern air combat

I used to fly this one: http://www.condorsoaring.com/ during the winter when I couldn't fly in real life.

Does War Thunder count? :p

I am pondering the purchase of the Saitek X52 Pro or the Saitek X55 Rhino. The price difference between the two is negligible so I might go with the X55 Rhino.

and...

Aces of the Pacific
Aces Over Europe
Jetfighter (original, II through V, though they trended toward arcade games as the series progressed)
Red Baron II (not quite as good, but still good)
Rise of Flight
Battle of Britain
Comanche: Maximum Overkill (1 through 4 Voxel graphics!)
and there was a cool F-111 sim I can't remember the name of.

If House played Eve: http://i.imgur.com/y7ShT.jpg

But in purple, I'm stunning!

Oh I don't know, don't remember them all. Notable:
Solo flight (Sid Meier's)
F-15 Strike Eagle
SubLogic flight sim

for pc:
Bunch of M$FS' from early on, not the latest.
The CFS'
Flight Gear (open source, it's still active)
Red Baron
Comanche
WWII Online - yes very much a flight sim
A bunch more, just not so much recent years.
Some Android flight sims, not notable.

I'm in it for the money

Jane's AH64 Longbow was the best one they made imo (together with 688 Attack Sub, but that's obviously not a flight sim)

Get the X55, it's really really good but if you can wait then hold on for it for a bit; never buy the first version :)

Yup, Longbow was amazing.

Janes 688... dont get me started on that one or other naval sims. Blink
Those same devs that made 688 are working on a new sim apparently.

My brother tells me that I'd play Comanche: Maximum Overkill on his computer when I was very little. Does that count?

I'm about to take a break from EVE for some Rise of Flight. WWI air combat simulation, and realistic enough that just not stalling or spinning in combat is difficult to do.

I like Over Flanders Fields too, but the missions just weren't very well designed.

JF2, the old Apple IIe game where you flew an F-18 by keyboard. Another hard one.

Red Baron 3D - Still rules them all for pure fun, to me.

I'm still disappointed in the lack of force feedback joysticks. It may sound like a cheap novelty but the tactile feedback adds so much to the experience. Especially when flying helicopters. I would kill to have realistic trimming where when you hit the trimmer button on the joystick (called a cyclic when in a helicopter) it stays in the trimmed position instead of going back to center.

This would also help flying anything that is not fly by wire, trim deflection on the joystick is a godsend. I really miss my old Microsoft Sidewinder force feedback 2 in this aspect.

I have an idea for a joystick for flight simmers, but I have neither the engineering knowledge or funds to start such a project.

I'm surprised Kerbal Space Program hasn't been mentioned yet.

IL-2
CFS3 (with various add ons and campaigns)
Rise of Flight
Battle of Britain
FS9 and FSX

Few others but they are the ones I probably played the most. Have been playing CFS3 again recently with the firepower add on.

I LOVE flight sims. I started with the Aces over the Pacific/Europe series in the early 90's and eventually moved on from there. I played all the Jane's series (Jane's F-15 is still my favorite from them), then Flanker 2.0/2.5, Lock-On, IL-2, Jane's WW2 Fighters, and I'm still playing the Falcon series. Recently they released Falcon BMS, which is the last installment, and it's fantastic. Great graphics, improved flight model, more realism, etc.

I'd have to say that the best one is Falcon BMS, simply because of the dynamic campaign and realism. I'd like to get DCS but just like Flanker and Lock-On series, it's pretty much the same thing if you're not playing in multiplayer; every campaign is scripted and not dynamic. Sure, the flight models are great, but I was soured on the Lock-On series when I realized just how much they buffed the Fulcrums and Flankers to compete with the F-15 in the A/A arena. It was simply unrealistic, even by unclassified sim standards. It was like the developers were jealous of the Eagle's capabilities so they said, "Oh yeah? Well we'll just see about that!" and added a bunch of BVR capabilities that they simply don't have because they're Flanker fanboys, and extremely nerfed the Eagle.

Falcon BMS is the king of sims, imo. If you haven't tried the new iteration of it, get it. It's been taken over by Benchmark Studios (BMS) and it's a completely free download and install if you've already got the Falcon series. It's extremely stable, too. However, you MUST have the ORIGINAL Falcon 4.0 disk and not F4 Allied Force.

Well with DCS I make my own missions, have quite a few of them now actually but the lack of a dynamic campaign does make me sad.

As for the Su-27 vs F-15, I say the F-15 is hands down way better at BVR now then the Su-27. Su-27s radar is terrible and hard to work and the R-27ER semi-active radar homing missiles are a pain, nothing like the AIM-120 which is essentially fire and forget. They also recently nerfed the MiG-29s IRST down to a more realistic and believable distance, its detection range is something like 25km now. I say they should remove the R-77 missile from the mig too. As far as I know that missile never went into mass production.

As for dog fighting I'd say they are pretty evenly matched. The Su-27 has the high off boresight IR missiles/head tracking for locking targets and but the F-15 still does not have that, I would think that they would be upgraded with that capability by now. Handling is about the same too.

The only things that the Su-27 has going for it for me at least is its high off boresight IR missiles, its gun, and its a awesome looking fighter. But other then that I would rather fly the Eagle, its easy to use and powerful radar is enough reason alone.

I feel that the Su-27 handles better at the low speed and at higher AoA then the F-15 too. But for pure speed/acceleration and high speed maneuvering the F-15 is better.

I would love to see an updated version of both the Su-27 and F-15 in DCS but that probably won't happen.

As for the latest Falcon mod... I need to try that

I grew up playing
A10:Tank Killer,
F19 Stealth Fighter
Gunship 2000
F117A Stealth Fighter
LHX Attack Chopper

And many more not worth mentioning, all with my trusty Joystick. People looked at me wrong sometimes, since I played them in realistic landings for extra credit and chance at medals, plus by the book waypoints that gave me ample time to destroy targets Big smile

Ahhh Flight Sims back in the day (the action oriented ones) were awesome!

Up to this day same reason I never bother with fancy graphics on crap, I enjoyed them pixelated landscapes and imagined the most awesome foliage, weather and environmental FXs that far surpass anything modern games can throw at me, I even invented PhysX back in the day in my head to the drum of the incredible music off my Sound Blaster 1.0 !!!!

LOL.

Have played the MSFS series for years. Though am now considering moving over to X-Plane now that MS has dropped the Flight Sim.

I get the feeling that the whole flightsim scene is very much out of favour at the moment.

Oh and combat wise. I don't know if it's a true flight sim But I used to love B-17 the Mighty 8th.
