Jump Freighter Alt

I've recently moved out to 0.0 and I'm really enjoying it so far but it would be nice to be able to jump my own things in and out with a jump freighter.

I've completed my other training I wanted on my alt and was gonna get my jump freighter training done now, I can already fly a Charon so its only like 60 days with jump drive skills to 4 to sit in a Rhea.

First off I've got time on my alt and not much else I really want to train for in the near future so would jump drive skills to 5 be a good idea?

Secondly would Caldari freighter to 5 and Jump freighters to 5 be worth it if I'm going to making 2-3 jumps per week deep into 0.0? I'm not sure if I could fill up a freighter so 5% bonus capacity wouldn't really be crucial but 5% agility and 10% less jump fuel seems enticing.

Lastly my alt doesn't have many core skills like basic capacitor skills, electronic skills, navigation or fitting skills trained up that much. I was wondering if my plan is max out my jump freighter skills would I need to train up anything beyond the obvious for a Rhea? Such as evasive maneuvering for 5% bonus ship agility if it does indeed apply to a Rhea. I guess my main concern is sitting in a 4+ billion ISK ship with crap support skills even though jump freighters can't be fit with anything.

Any tips are appreciated! Thanks.

If you are going to train any skills to five, Jump Calibration V is the most important, afterwards Freighters V for the lols and Jump Fuel conservation. Jump Freighters V is one of those "I have nothing else to do with my life but train this" sort of skill. Kind of like Philosophy in real life.

My thoughts:

Jump Drive Calibration Level 5 is a must.
Jump Fuel Conservation Level 5 is really needed now with the price of isotopes rising.
Jump Freighter Level 5, I would get before Freighter Level 5 due too the price of isotopes.

But who knows isotopes could drop in price to where saving on fuel is not a concern.

In my opinion, all ships with a jump drive require Jump Drive Calibration 5.

I recommend:
* Jump Drive Calibration 5
* racial Freighter 4 (next one I'd get to 5... my alt has 5 queued)
* Jump Freighters 4
* Jump Fuel Conservation 4
* Evasive Maneuvring 5 (get to warp faster)
* Advanced Spaceship Command 5 (get to warp faster)
* Navigation 5 (make hisec AFK faster, plus JF are slower than freighters)

For multiple jumps without docking:
* Energy Management 5
* Energy Systems Operation 5

Because I'm paranoid:
* Mechanic 5
* Shield Management 5
* Hull Upgrades 5

Note:
* Jump Freighters is rank 14.
* Evasive Maneuvering is rank 2. Advanced Spaceship Command is rank 5. Both faster to train for agility.
* Jump Fuel Conservation is rank 8, which is also faster to train for fuel reduction.

I didn't read all of the way to the bottom, the previous post to me is good.

Jump Drive Calibration 5 is the only required thing to be a non useless JF pilot.

Train everything else to at least 4 or 5 as you see fit.

Tau really nailed it. Depending on who is paying for the fuel and your general needs regarding capacity choose cargo room versus jump fuel accordingly.

Furthermore, would a carrier be able to cover your needs or do you need this heavy hauling capability for industry etc.? A Rhea is currently at around 6 bil isk, so it's a bit more then the four bil which you mentioned.

Best of luck Big smile

Tau is the man :D

A couple of my friends joined and moved out to 0.0 with me so we should be able to scrounge together 6 bil in the 2 months it takes my alt to train up for a Rhea.

We'd like to be able to move anything we like pretty much whenever we'd like and we are planning on getting into some production in the future.

Carriers can only take ships and their own fittings + ammo/scripts correct? I am planning on getting a carrier on my alt for getting rigged ships up and down the pipe eventually then training on my main in about a year to use it in combat but till then I was hoping a Rhea would pretty much be a one stop shop minus rigged ships :)

Thanks for all the replies!

Carriers have a cargo hold, a corporate hangar, and a ship maintenance bay.

The ship maintenance bay can only carry assembled ships, which can only have charges in their cargoholds.

The cargohold and corporate hangar can carry packaged ships (erm... well small ones as there isn't a lot of room) and anything else.

You can haul anything if it is plastic-wrapped in a courier package. This is how you move assembled ships in a freighter or jump freighter: give the stuff to your no-skill alt (corp office, or private item exchange contract), and have the alt private courier contract it to you, deliver it, then have the alt private item exchange contract it back to you. Costs at most 3x 10,000 ISK contract fee to move as much as your ship can haul.

I currently have 4 Rhea, so I can recommend them. I really like Charons more though. I use them so much I don't find them slow at all. Shocked

Note that if you are short on ISK, a Rorqual is also cheaper then a JF, but can't enter hisec of course. A Rorqual hauls more than a carrier, but can't haul ships other than industrial class ships. Most capital & JF pilots already have the skills for a Rorqual, unlike an Orca.

Lastly, carriers can jump the furthest.

I take umbrage at that crack about philosophy! I am currently working towards a BS in philosophy. There is actually quite a lot you can do with that degree, like law school.
