I used to run L4; and the quickest/ most profitable way is to total 'Bling' out your ship, but this choice comes with increased risk. The risk outweighed the ISK gained for me, so I ran them slower.

The Retriever is more profitable, but at a significantly increased risk.

Why? What circumstances have changed?

Then I have fantastic news for you! CCP have given you a variety of tools to address both of these points. Unfortunately, they don't sell spines in the nex store though, so you'll have to supply your own. Big smile

Also, pretty sure that suicide ganking is one of a number of parts of the game that devs aren't allowed to play, which might explain some of the choices they've made in the past.

Your stupidity aside. I don't mine. I think being able to gank miners under present circumstances is ridiculous. Either the ships should be harder to kill, or the ramifications should be more severe for the ganker(s). Always said that. Always will say that.
Eve is a game of choices, you can choose to mine in a ship that's hard to kill at the cost of a little yield, such as a Skiff or Procurer, or you can choose to mine in a ship that maximises yield, at the cost of being easier to kill.

The tools are already there, it's not the gankers fault that you choose not to use them. Choices, like everything else in Eve, carry consequences.

In fact, it's so egregious, one must assume the devs and CCP staff are involved in the ganking themselves.
As far as I know CCP staff are discouraged, if not forbidden, from indulging in the darker paths available within Eve. They have to be seen as above reproach by both their peers, and their customers.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Dear CCP:

When you changed the mining ships (giving one of them the EHP of a BATTLESHIP), i and others told you "many of them won't care about the defensive options you give them, they will continue to fly flimsy 'yield boats' to make the best isk per hour and continue to complain about being easy to gank until you give THEIR ship BS lvl EHP...which will mollify them for a week tops then they'll ask for more and more because that's who they are"

I offer the above quoted post as proof of our assertion.

They're only much much easier to kill if people are AFK, watching faptube in another window etc. Situational awareness is key.

I mine, occasionally; I have Procurers, Skiffs and a couple of Mackinaws. Their use is situational, if I'm busy plundering other peoples wormholes or solo mining I use a Procurer or Skiff, if I have Orca support, especially with a shield harmonising link I'll use a Mackinaw, the fit I use packs around 30K EHP against blasters before any boosts.

It's a case of using the right tool for the job.
