I was listening to a recent podcast, and among other things, they got into the discussion about the EVE subculture of so called "tear collectors". At the risk of starting a flame war, I'm curious to know what others think about this phenomena.

Do you despise the collectors? Are you cool with the practice? Could you care less?

Are you a tear collector? Why do you do it?

Try to follow the forum rules, and discuss. For science!

Me? I personally don't care for it, and find it to be deplorable. I collect enough tears through normal game play when achieving my goals, but it's not the intent (I just needed that moon, that POCO, that Catch, etc). Purposefully targeting players for no other reason thatn to grief them? Sad state of game play, and sad excuse of a player imho.

I would have to say that tears are REALLY only tears when they come from normal gameplay. And honestly, those are the funny ones.

I have, and tbh I've never found it to be very entertaining. I'm of the opinion that if someone logs on just with the intent of trying to make another person mad, that's not really emergent gameplay. In that case you're just being a douchebag.

If on the other hand your just playing the game (and I would count piracy, ganking and scamming to be normal gameplay in EVE) then more power to you. If someone is upset in this case, they are probably just being a bad sport.

The problem it seems is that intent is near impossible to determine.

I just shrug most of this off myself. Site there have been times when I was frustrated, but that's just part of EVE it seems.
