I suspect this is troll, but I'll bite.

Would it be sufficient to simply not show the name to non-corp/appliance mates?

Naming a ship is handy for the player, but i think it is far less valuable information to others.

In one sense, yeah, people over 18 go to the cinema to see Fast and Furious 6.
It doesn't necessarily mean adults are in attendance.
