Not so sure about the later than usual date, I liked it where it was in the past.

Either way, still super excited for this

So the deadline to be in an alliance is three weeks EARLIER than last year, for a tournament that is now starting four weeks LATER than last year....

For the record, I detest unannounced deadlines. Setting a deadline then not announcing it until the deadline has already past just is so... questionable... I understand your reasoning for it, but it just "tastes bad."

Anyways, rant over.... on to serious questions.

  • The player wishes to rejoin the alliance that the character was most recently a member of
  • The character in question has spent a significant amount of time in this alliance over the past year

These exceptions heavily favor the older, long-established alliances over the new/newer alliances. As an alliance just formed this year (two months ago) but naive enough to have hopes and dreams of being in this year's Alliance Tournament, we can't really make use of these two exceptions, because we're not old enough for anyone to have "spent a significant amount of time in" yet and hardly nobody has left my alliance to return to it.

That leaves the first stated exception:

  • The character in question was not in any alliance at the time of the cutoff on April 24th.

I am aware that each request will be handled on a "case by case" basis, but I do have some questions regarding this exception:

  • Does that mean that anyone who is not in any alliance at all at the deadline and subsequently joins my alliance, is eligible to be in the arena? Or do they have to file a petition to be eligible?
  • Does that mean that any alliance can continue to recruit for their teams any number of non-allied players?
  • What is the deadline for requesting an exception? Please don't let it be another deadline announced after it has already passed.

Also, if someone who was already in my alliance moved their alt from another alliance into my alliance after the deadline passed but before the announcement was made (meaning they joined about 15-16 hours ago lol), is there a good probability that an exception could be made for them?

Thanks! Looking forward to a terrific AT!

Ya, I know what you mean... the third weekend of the AT falls on Labor Day Weekend in the United States. Five members of my (potential) team have already informed me they won't be available that weekend. Of course, that would assume we make it to the third weekend ;)

While we knew there would be changes (there always is), we'd been tentatively planning that the AT would take place roughly around the same time it took place for the last three years (starting mid to late July). On the other hand... several additional weeks of practice won't hurt, either! Big smile

To be considered for an exception, characters need to meet all three criteria, not just one of them. So alliances cannot recruit random un-allied players after the cutoff.

The criteria for "significant amount of time in this alliance over the past year" will be determined using common sense. So if an alliance is less than a year old we wouldn't try to require pilots to have been in it all year. :)
This rule is in place to make it clear that if someone spent a week in "Alliance A" back in June and then spent most of the rest of the year in "Alliance B" we won't be allowing them to use an exception to play for "Alliance A".

Please remember last year the same happened and the cutoff date was earlier. It's not like you couldn't guess this would happen again.

So my alliance can't make use of the exceptions at all. We're "stuck" with who we have right now. Gotcha.

Yes, I do remember the same thing happened last year, but the cutoff date was LATER by three weeks: The cutoff date last year was May 15th. We figured they'd move it a bit - a week or two at most - figured it wouldn't move earlier than May 1st, but knew there was a risk. Anyways, there are seven people who were joining my alliance this week (one of whom joined after DT but before the announcement) that are now not eligible.

I am fundamentally opposed to deadlines that are not announced in advance of the deadline. They are patently unfair. I agree with the reasons for the deadline, but it doesn't hurt the large and long-established alliances hardly at all, who have many people to draw from and long histories. The ones who are hurt by unannounced deadlines like this are the small alliances and the new alliances, who are also the least likely to "B" team it.

It's all good, just motivates my guys to work that much harder to put on a good show, and put up a good fight.

Now I'll start crossing my fingers they do away with the ridiculous "blind" auction this year... likely a futile hope...

I stand corrected. However gambling about a cutoff date is really brave when you are into tournaments.

I know Greygal has been practicing for the AT with a group of friends, and it would be a kick in her nutts if her practice partners could NOT join her in the AT because they missed the "just sprung" deadline.

Perhaps the Sisi activity records (kills and joining Sisi Corps) could be used to validate teammates?

I play Eve. Gambling is a way of life ;) It was not exactly an intentional gamble, but one of really bad timing.

The seven people that were joining this week are a small corporation that hadn't joined my alliance yet because their CEO has been out of the country for last three weeks and won't be back until Tuesday. Honestly didn't occur to any of us to have them simply drop their corp and join separately.

"Losing" them combined with the third weekend falling on Labor Day Weekend (big U.S. holiday weekend) further reducing the availability of at least five experienced members of my small team ... gah ...

I'm whining some, I know, just ignore me Lol I guess I just want it on the record that unannounced deadlines such as this have a MUCH more negative impact on small and new alliances than the large and old alliances. Considering how much "talk" there seems to be about making the AT and other tournament events more accessible to the smaller and/or newer alliances....

Anyways, like I said, just means we have motivation to work that much harder and my inexperienced team members will have that much more opportunity to be the hero Cool

/whine mode off, time to schedule extra practices

Fortunately I don't have nutts... well, except for the "brass balls" my daddy always said I had :)

No, I would not want a special exception like SISI records or anything like that. That would not be fair, and it would be far too extreme an exception, and a pretty big burden on the administration of the exceptions for the GMs.

I just want the exceptions that are in place to be accessible to all alliances. By design - intentionally or not - the exceptions that are in place greatly favor the large and old alliances over the small and new alliances.

The concept of an Alliance Tournament is more attractive for me to watch then the New Eden Open, it's great to see a 12th one Cool

Eve online is :

A) mining simulator B) glorified chatroom C) spreadsheets online

D) CCP Games Pay to Win at skill leveling, with instant gratification
