Quality Assurance is one of the most important parts of making a video game. After all, if the code that lets you do cool stuff also deletes your hard drive, you're going to have problems! Luckily, we have very talented people in place to make sure this doesn't happen (at least more than once). Leading the team is CCP Goliath, a man who is hard to miss if you've ever been to Fanfest. I talked to him about his job in our latest Developer Spotlight!

Can I work at CCP? Seems like a lot of fun!

Only 2 problems:
1. I would have to Work from home, because there is no way in hell I'm moving to Atlanta (I live in Arkansas)
2. I'm guessing Stackless Python isn't very similar to PHP/HTML/Javascript (What I code with in my current job). However I am very good at SQL queries and I am a very fast learner with some experience in C++/JAVA!

Anyways, for those of you lucky enough to be working on this awesome game: THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR AMAZING WORK!

Cheers, m8. I knew a dude by the in-game name of G0liath that played Tribal Wars. Also knew a dude irl that looked a lot like you. But in the states.

Also, M:tG, the original TCG. All others are pretenders to the throne.

Never played Tribal Wars, sorry :)

MTG all the way! (Though I will always have a soft spot for the Legend of the 5 Rings TCG, original version)

I like hearing about QA in other companies, especially in games that I play a lot lol. Funny fact, it's possible we have worked together (directly or indirectly) if you where ever in the AQ/e4e/Pole to Win office out of Baltimore. Previous company I was with for 4 years started using AQ in 2009. Was a godsend during crunch, even if we didn't work together, I thank you and yours for the work you do (then and now), it is much appreciated.

Anywho... Well played sir, and keep up the good work as the bugs storm the gates.

Thanks for the long list of board games in your answer; I'm going to try a couple of those I haven't heard of! Do you have a favorite dominion expansion?

Eve haz QA?

Sorry couldn't resist :(

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

Favourite might be a strong word. I think each expansion has its own merits (except maybe Alchemy) and playstyle. I love Dark Ages for the hateful and complex nature of most of the cards, Guilds for the amazingly boss gold coins that come with it, Seaside is wonderful generally, and quite "nice", haven't played much Prosperity or Hinterlands. Favourite cards are, in no order, Chapel, Gardens, Lab, Nobles, Cultists, Council Room.

CCP Goliath your presence in social media is a great asset to CCP.

Glad to see you presented to the greater player community in this way.

Hurry up with the latest build so I and the other Sisi dwellers we can spend some time bug reporting the Summer buildTwisted

Oooh! Board games!

So. Goliath, what do you think of cooperative or semi-cooperative games? Pandemic or Shadows over Camelot, respectively, for instance.

I want to like coop games more than I do in practice. I think the "classics" of Arkham, Pandemic, etc. all have the problem of one player effectively making the decisions for everyone. That said, if the game is challenging enough and each player has secret information, or cannot be told optimal plays, they can be good. Hanabi is probably one of the most fun ones I've played. SoC I have never played, but I like everything else I've played from Days of Wonder, so wouldn't be surprised to enjoy it. The Forbidden series are quite fun too, but I've never won a game of either Desert or Island so I also kinda hate them I guess Evil

Semi coop I am way more into. I love anything that relies on a tenuous accord, hence why Archipelago has catapulted itself into my current faves list. Battlestar is to semi coop as Arkham is to coop - it's a great gateway game to get non gamers on the hook, it's just much, much more engaging than Arkham.

I'm honestly surprised that this spotlight didn't turn into a board game monologue once they were mentioned, props to Eterne for keeping Goliath on topic!

And to anyone who might play Resistance with Goliath & I one day, remember this: He's definitely, definitely a spy, and I'm totally on your side. You can trust me Blink

the knights all keep their cards (actions) secret, and the player trying to tell everyone what to do may secretly be the traitor

unfortunately my friends and i are all grossly incompetent knights so we have never successfully identified the turncoat who fits right in

We were thinking about getting Seaside! Our obsession with dominion has limited us branching out into other games. I have an untouched copy of net runner that I keep trying to get people to play.

I also have a bit of a fantasy of putting together a somewhat eve themed board game. I have some of the basics down, but have no previous experience messing around with board game creation fantasies.
