I recently brought an Absolution to null sec to rat against Guristas. I knew the damage types of Pulses (EM/Therm) were not optimal at all for the task, but I assumed 860 DPS would overcome that problem. I stand utterly corrected. It was miserable.
I am medium skilled in Missiles and Shields. Not all 5's, more of an Amarr guy. Command Ships is at 5 however, and T2 weapons/mods.

With that in mind, I just shipped my Abso back to high sec, and I am now fitting a Nighthawk to run Anoms and rat. Selectable damage type, relatively agile and moderate DPS (753 with my skills and 4 BCU II's, scourge heavy assault) will be the pro's I am looking forward to. However, I had a couple of questions.

- Heavy Missiles (higher range, lower damage) or Heavy Assaults? The 21km optimal of my HAM's seems like a small bummer, but its close to what the Abso was doing with Scorch, so I guess I'm used to it. Will the DPS difference be noticeable?

- Passive or Active tank?
I fit 2 LSE II's, an MWD, 2 Active Kinetic hardeners. My resists for Therm/Kinetic are 88-95 respectively.

- Does passive tank work in Anoms? The HP regen looks...not so good. Won't my shields just widdle down over time?

Heres my current untested fit:

5x Heavy Assault Missile II's (Scourge Rage)
2x 250mm Railgun II (because, why not?)

10mn Microwarpdrive II
2x Kinetic Deflection Field II
Target Painter II
Large Shield Extender II

Damage Control II
4x BCU II

Rigs
Medium Hydraulic Bay Thruster II
Medium Rocket Fuel Cache Partition II

DPS is 753 with missiles, range is 21.5km

Suggestions?

Ya. Don't run that.

I prefer heavies for the range

I'd drop the hams for heavies, swap the mwd for an ab, tp for another lse, and put 2 purged rigs on it. Consider dropping a bcu for an spr if you need slightly more tank. With fury missiles you won't lose that much dps and you won't instadie

Nighthawk is known to be one of the best passive tanks in the game, so I think it would do anoms just fine.

I do agree that heavies would be better than hams, Guristas like to kite, so saving travel time will more than compensate for the DPS loss.

Carry precisions for small stuff
Carry faction missiles as well for longer range

When I do anoms, I like to fly 40 km away from the warp in, it's just safer. That's where range is oh so valuable.

Unless your in an all blue zone, you might consider a cloak?
