The Eve and I'm not sure what to think. There is something strangely addictive and enjoyable with this game, but I'm not sure what that is.

I realized I hated mining within the first week or playing. Realized I hated Missions by the time I hit lvl 3's, but kept on running them for ISK and to get to those lvl 4 missions. Got to the lvl 4 missions, bought a BS, second mission I had the npc's blow it up. If I had sold the BS, I just would have bought another one thinking it would make it better. So I decided to lose the ISK so I cannot afford a new one for a while.

Find a little enjoyment in low sec ratting. Not much ISK making there though, but fun in an arbitrator.

Can't stand the whole Fleet/blob stuff. Did enough blobbing in GW2 WvW. Left that scene pretty fast after joining BNI. BNI is great, just the large fleet stuff was not for me.

Enjoyed FW to a point. Scanning down plexes and seeing a ship on scan; so I go to it. Warp in and the enemy warps out or stealth, and if it's a teammate they yell at you for coming into their space. Finding a fight where I am not outnumbered...

So I am playing a fun, kind of addictive game, for $15/month. To get the ISK to fund my fun, I must drop some more irl money on a plex for a game that may not be worth the $15/ month to play.

I read many posts about plexing accounts (my god the amount of alts) and continue to wonder how I can do that while being fairly new. Because I like the game and would put in the time to play the game without the wife agro and real $$ spent, but I just cannot find that spot that allows me to have fun and profit at the same time.

I know...

Have yo stuffz

HTFU...

Tears...

ANyhow, I decided to go back to basics and train small guns and frigates to max instead of shooting for lvl 4's. I believe that I can have a ton of fun in a frigate, make some ISK to fund my fun. If I find it fun, I will gladly pay the irl $$$ for the fun, extra could go to a plex here and there. Pretty sure I have been doing it wrong from the begining.

Not a complaining thread, or a quitting thread even. Just my thoughts/circle on a great game that may or may not be worth the $15/month.

You've tried some conventional career paths and found them wanting. So maybe try your hand at some murder and mayhem, maybe that would be more your thing.

Or just give me your stuff.Big smile

Finding viable "solo" fights is perhaps one of the most difficult tasks in the game. That being said, fully committing to fac war would probably be the best fit for you. You can run plexes for funds while keeping an eye open for fights. Those funds, combined with the plex you bought should keep your head above water without the need to run level 4's.

Also, while I share your distaste for huge fleets, small fleets (say 5-10) can be a lot of fun. You might want to look into that.

If isk is what you're worried about, my suggestion is to find a corp with a good T1 frigate and cruiser reimbursement program.

ISK is a worry, but not the only worry. It certainly is important because I blow up a lot. and would love to purchase plex with isk.

Having fun is more important.

Ignore the wife, if you earn it, you can spend it however you choose.

As long as it doesn't mean you have a kid going hungry, of course.

Like I said, there are corporations out there that will reimburse your losses in PvP. That way, just fly around, get blown up as much as you please, and have some fun.

I will say that in my long experience playing this game, that trying to play for free by plexing your account is a goal that new players should not set for themselves.

It's about the quickest way I know to turn EVE into a job and burn yourself out on it.

I think Eve is a lot more fun for a new player if he can pay for the subscription instead of trying to plex the account. For a new player that would require a lot of grinding which many don't enjoy.

Have you tried exploration, or hooking up with a low sec group outside of FW?

After hearing that I could not agree more. I am burned out.

I'll look for a new corp and keep training frigates and support skills.

I think the honorable thing to do would be to show you the way.....

First....

I am gonna need CEO-ship of your corp, and all of your corp shares.

Secondly....

Once the first is done, you work for me. I will be your benefactor, provide you with ships and fun.

Third....

You will bring me the corpse of Solecist Project for :reasons:

Fourth.......

Profit????????

Or alternatively....

Can I haz your stuffz?

I have tried exploration, but after an hour of it I am pretty bored. I do enjoy scanning down combat sites and running those.

Only lowsec group I have joined/hooked up with is BNI. Pretty much fly solo in lowsec to rat in belts at this point.

There's something very satisfying about low tech frigate pvp. It's just good, cheap fun (like a sprinkler in summertime).

You should put at least a few PI colonies down. The amount of effort is small for the ISK you get, although you can go a little more advanced if you really want some serious dough. I've also had some fun running trade routes to turn some profit, it's highly based on luck but you can feel rather clever when you make twenty million ISK by reselling something a few systems over.

That said, if you're not enjoying a game and/or it's interfering with your life then there's no reason to keep dropping your money on it.

Most new players decide they want a "Battleship" before they even create the character and stick to that even when they discover its a long train for a ship with very limited use in game. You have done well discovering for yourself battleships are something you can do later when you really need one.

Between Assault Frigates, Intie Frigates and Covops Frigates you have about 75% of the most fun stuff in the game wrapped up in just a month or so of skills so your on the right track :D

For assault frigate based income there is FW . Inties and covops are very handy for keeping an eye on losec PI in between your once a month cargo dash. They are also great for ninja looting high value loot in losec and null and for general pvP havoc.

Note that if you are plexing your ISK and not short of funds you can covops in an astero with quit low skills. The downside is the hull costs twice a normal covops but if ISK is not an issue who cares.

What H.bot is asking is, have you tried being bad? Awoxing/Safaris... ganking.. mission flipping... hunting explorers in lowsec and nullsec.. this and more can be yours if you want to PLAY a bad guy in Eve*

* note: being a bad guy IRL is not required.

p.s. I didn't train BS 1 until I was a year into Eve. Even then, I'd never fly one except in L4s and with a T2 tank.

Feel free to join corp, and contract all of your assets for no collateral to move to the uber super duper secret base. Shocked

I will guide you to the light.

The above rules 2-4 still apply, however, since you do not have a corp to sacrifice in the name of fun and glorious happiness.

Feel free to app in, and we can begin immediately.

I would recommend joining the 'belligerent undesirables" chat channel in game and ask how well crime pays.

I tend to compare what I spend on EVE with other expenses for hobby's.

A movie in the theater over here is about $8 per movie
A nice dinner at a restaurant is $25 each

Compared to that, I find EVE both affordable and worth it.

The fact that it's your own time and money should make anybody immune for the "this is the only real EVE" argument. As long as somebody else isn't paying my subscription its nice they have an opinion but that's it.

Thank you for sharing your experiences sofar. Based on the different things you've done and your ability to find new things, I'm sure you will find your own "EVE thing".
