Put her on the spot and turn the tables.

With your girl friend there, say to the 'friend'. "Do you really hate me so much as to make your friend *motion towards your girl friend* miserable?"

Then add self-defacing comment to sell sincerity, "I may not be the best fish in the sea, but at least I'm polite enough to not tell her (the girl friend) that I don't like you either."

She either will, shut up, come back with an argument that you'll never recover from, or she'll freak out and prove your point for you.

Or, she will act all hurt and angry, the gf will turn on her bf and be angry at him for being so insensitive towards her friend, he will pretend he is sorry, she will forgive him (for now) and the friend will have a "real" reason to trash talk him to friends and his gf Roll
