Been in eve for allmost ten years with 2 small breaks in between.

The way i keep the game interesting is by being a drifter. For example 2 years ago i did marketing for 6 months , went to solo syndicate roaming a few months , back to bpo buying/reselling/researching 6 months , moved to syndicate for small alliance pewpew and plexing. After that went back to piracy for 2 months and then went to join the CFC for 6 months to 'enjoy' the halloween war.Now i am in a faction warfare alliance as of a few months playing with solo pewpewing in frigs mostly.

The only way for me to keep the game interesting is to not stay too long in one place.I make friends in all aspects of eve be it carebearing , solo pewpewing or blobfleeting and so far only once left because of some 'drama' wich was yearssss ago.Every time i join a new corp i make clear that if they look at my corphistory they will see that i am not there for the long run but a 2 to 6 months max 'vacation' .I do try to contribute to whatever that corp/alliance needs when i am there so it's not just joining to leech on something it's joining to have a new experience OR to re-live an experience i once had.For example the current alliance i help seeding the markets , jf'ing stuff around and 'give my idea's on certain directions ' .

The only things i keep my hands off is being in a directors role because of endless drama-lama as i found out in my first years of eve , wormholes as it does not attract me in the slightest and incursions for the same reason as wormholes .But who knows maybe in a few months i might head that direction , i never know where i end up a few months later as i totally have no 'longterm plans'.

Basically it can be summed up by an old song :

' I'm the kinda guy who can never settle down , where pretty things blow up you know that i'm around . They call me the wanderer , yeah the wanderer , i roam around around ... ' Blink

We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.

As it has already been mentioned, having fun in a game like EVE is all about the social aspect.
Ive spent weeks playing this game solo, and weeks playing the game with other people over mumble etc, It makes a huge difference. First of all I would try out different corps until you found one with like minded players, this game like every other online game becomes so much more fun when you have like minded players who are social and online at the same times as you are.

Then if you cant figure out exactly what you want to do, give yourself a list of challenges:
I will kill 10 players in pvp without dying.
I will generate x amount of income from a POS/PI.
I will build this ship from scratch.
I will be able to do these missions in x amount of time.

Whatever you find to be fun, be it mining, pvp, exploring or whatever, set yourself a list of challenges, and then go out to complete them with a bunch of people you enjoy playing with ;)

I'd advise not to try to recapture or recreate. Be glad of what was. Don't ruin what could be by trying to bend it into what came before. You may well have experienced your glory days. You may well become part of something greater than those...as long as you don't ruin the chance by expecting the past to replay itself. That will never happen. Be glad you saw it the first time around.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

Remember them shakes you get when solo pvping?

I would also recommend Elise Randolphs new player stream to help recapture the magic

Go hermit.

Make an alt, and promise yourself that none of your vast assets or other characters can touch or interact with that alt. Make it subsist totally independently, and pretend the "start from scratch" aspect.

If you really want to challenge yourself, start a wardec corp with this new alt, once you have worked your way to having the funds.

I am sort of leaning towards that.
"Eve with fresh eyes" I've got an alt totally right for a random pirate type. No connection, all the isks have been made like a new player.

I have one pirate character and one indusrtial type that I have kept totally separate.

Response should get at least a little of my stuff! Big smile

Pretty much that.

I would also like to add, I see a lot of players doing the things they think they need to do or are supposed to do in this game, a kind of "when in Rome" attitude. This is why we see week old players trying to form corporations and getting turbo-stomped in a wardec a week later.

Therefore, don't try to play the game the way it was meant to be played, but instead find some out of the box things to do. You might even change the game or some aspects of it. From piracy to player-sponsored live events for example.

Given further thought, I think the OP is more qualified to be "emergent" in this game than most other players. Almost an enviable position for having done it all, can now do that which was not intended. The "end game" may well not be a feature or intent of the game.

Go do some lowsec exploration on an alt.

First person that messes with you set out on a path of vengeance and make their EVE life a living hell.

I did this for about 9 months out in Khanid with 3x accounts.

Do your homework on your target. Find out if they go through highsec and suicide them. Station camp them. Gate camp them. Get all your characters in recons and play ninja mode.

Never underestimate the power of revenge!

Start a fresh pilot and start solo; this is different as it is not the best way to play as you are solo. Train all skills you need to do what you need to do. Pretend EvE was like it was population size when it first started.

Yes, you have to suspend reality a little at the beginning but you will soon interact with people. Buy your firgate bpos that you want to use. Find a low sec system with low material research ques and research the material efficiency. While this is happening rat in pvp fit frigates, mine in ventures, train your trade skills so you can station trade and work the buy low sell high system for the whole region. All the while building relations with the locals. Go to a low sec region you are not really familiar with to spice things up.

I second the idea of going hermit. Travel the universe, scrape a living.

On a tangent you could always set yourself a mammoth task. I personally really get into long 'grinds'. I've always thought it would be cool to travel to every star system once. Along the way maybe do a bit of exploration, ratting, photography...what ever blows your skirt up at the time. Take a mobile depot with a few essentials and head off the beaten track. Hope you find your love for the game again :)

To me, it's always been about the story. For example, whenever I play Skyrim, I always reach that kind of endgame state. That point where there really isn't anymore story to add, so it kind of becomes stale. That's the point where I always restart- I delete the old save files and start anew with a fresh character. And I avoid making the same choices I made in the previous file.

I'm not saying biomass all your characters, but make a new one. And definitely immerse yourself. What would you do if you weren't you? Sure the major plot points may be the same, but those transcend everything. I make the same general choices in game as everyone else. On my main, those choices reflect who I am. Karl is me. My alts are not me. In a way, they should allow you to see the world through a different window, and therefore allow you to see yourself through a different window.

It's a sandbox game. But what is the sand? The game? Or you?

So how do I find that new tribe while I still have a sleeping one? I know they will be back.

That's why the "fresh start" character should be an alt, while you retain access to your main account. You can bring the fledgling tribe into the fold when the time is right, if you so choose.

So much this! To be honest, what I would do is roll a new character and as stated above do it so none of your 'now' assests never touch it. Also, as a point have it so no one (not even your RL in game friends) know who it is.

Build up from scratch, set yourself goals. New goals from what your old goals in game where that eventually lead you down the path to owning your own corp and alliance again. Build up from nothing with only the clothes that are on your back.

I don't know much about your old corps / alliance or your play style, but switch it up a little bit. If your old corp / alliance was a nullsec corp, maybe try to build up a Wormhole corp or a lowsec piracy alliance instead and / or vice versa.

If you keep this new char on the low down, not letting people know who you are and what you have done, the game is literally at your fingertips, sure you will still get awoxers and spies as natural, but you wont have anyone who specifically targets you because of your other chars.

It will be hard work and dedication, but you know all of this anyway.

By the sounds of it, reading through your replies and the original post, you already know what you want to do. So the best advice to give is grab it by the balls and dive straight in and have fun...

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."
