The Origami Project: Suggest your graphics "little things" (May 22)

UPDATE - May 22

Escalation / Inferno brings:

"All electronic warfare effects that you are on the receiving end of are displayed in icon format above your ship UI."
"New missile launchers and launch effects are released with Inferno and add a new level of immersion to EVE Online."
"Increased the Nebula resolution quality on select systems."

The Origami Project (formerly Visual Papercuts):

* CCP's art team has their own ideas. Threads like these help them generate new ones and prioritize.
* If someone's already suggested your idea, post anyway. Repetition shows priority.
* Audio and UI suggestions are welcome too, as they're part of EVE's overall presentation.

Areas repeatedly mentioned
(If I missed anything, post or PM me.)

Missiles
√ need launchers
√ unmerge warheads fired as a group
√ flat torpedo explosions

User Interface
- make it more like the trailers
- more info on tactical overview
- add info to target reticle
√ better ways of communicating jammed, neuted, webbed, etc.

Graphics Options
- gamma
√ high resolution nebulae ("select systems")
- push the hardware, as long as it's optional

Camera
- "follow behind ship" option
- "follow target" option
- advanced camera options exist but aren't sufficient
- when "look at" target explodes, let players watch the fireworks

Weapons and Impact
- separate damage effects for shields, armor, and hull
- artillery is underwhelming
- redesigned weapon sounds/animations to better distinguish them

Explosions and Wrecks
- reworked sound effects
- shockwaves, etc.
- wrecks that look more like the hull they came from
- animated wrecks (debris, etc.)

Ambient Life
- more NPCs
- more billboards
- more station life, inside and out

Gates
- redesigned warp bubbles
- replace loading screen with animation

Scale
- differences in ship sizes
- increase size of celestials

Other
- collision effects (sparks, shields, etc...)
- mining lasers change color with different crystals
- redesign sensor booster, etc. effects

do you actually jump at 20AU? or does it warp to then jump? if it's the latter then that's a new feature. same with setting AP to a station.

warp tunnel inside a planet gets dark +1 but you still see the sun -1.



explosions should be bigger and more of a volumetirc cloud than tiny dots.



guns - need bigger flashes.



impact effects of weapons.




also this is a feature i would LOVE to see: CAMERA FOLLOW SHIP:
the camera will move according (relative) to the ship's direction so you will actually FEEL the first-person-ness of the ship, and not always a third person.

so when a ship turns, the camera will turn as well (and the ship look static to the camera but the background is moving).

it doesn't need to violate the current UP DOWN locks, it can still turn with the ship even if the ship rotates sideways.

Heh, thought I was the only one who wanted an option for the camera to follow the ship.

I'd love it for autopilot, it would be pretty damn scenic.

id like to see explosions actually hit shields & Not the centre of a ship. Something similar i remember seeing on Nexus: the Jupiter Incident for those that played it way back when Cool

Freespace 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I just played through it again not too long ago. I told my buddy to play it but he's a graphics whore. What a shame.

The epic feeling I get from that game - well, I'll never forget it.

In international rules of warfare. Yes, its an act of war if no challenge was issued before hand.

Would like a new jumping effect... when going through a stargate or jump bridgr... or titan bridge...
Im thinking a mini version of the capital jumping effect would be nice

Something that shows you being slinged towards space... instead of a bubble around the ship + cloaking effect

The jump command now warps you to a gate and jumps you through it, requiring one less click to jump.

In sum, no, you don't win, you fail. You fail terribly. Since forum pvp is EVE endgame, you have now lost EVE. GTFO.

-1 for every brown color scheme. I'll accept it on the Deimos to bring it in line with the scheme the Astarte has sported for a long time now. All other brown ships are terrible. It's most egregious with the Ishukone line and Guristas ships.

I like this idea. Not only would it be more accurate, but it conveys more information.

This thread is relevant to my interests. Simple graphical glitches, areas with poor visual feedback or things that are just lacking a 'wow' factor that should be intrinsic are all great to know about.

Not sure we should try to code away the brown though, sorry Dirk.
