How in Heavnes name do you FIND asteroids?

I am trying to complete the second tutorial mission for Industry, where you have to gather 333 of the mineral to refine, there are three astroid fields in that solar system and NONE Of them has a single asteroid in them that I can see after two hours of going between then. Do the fields respawn? someone may have cleaned them out, i saw another miner doing the same hunt.

I can't believe that the fields are so fragile..or that training missoins are placed where there are no resources to find.

How do you navigate search other fields ? I mean there is no road map for near by galaxies that I can see or have been told about in the tutorials, so basically I am stuck in the area around the station until we get further training or info on how to search elsewhere. I have no desire to get involved in PVP antics ..i am just trying to get thru the training at this point.

any tips helpful and very gratefully recieved.

I dont see any radar function that we can search for objects..the tactical display does not even show the police ships at one of the fields, what is up with that? i thouight tactical displays would show other ships as well? or do i have to select some filter to get that to show?

sigh.

i hope there is not a time limit on the missions, i understand if we fail them more than once we cannot do them again and lose our standing with that trainer? another possible trap for the unwary?

Memory is hazy on the tutorial specifics so let's cover all the bases:

If it's a mission pocket:
When you undock, right click somewhere in empty space to pull up the right click menu and see if you have an "encounter" entry. If you do, there should also be a "set destination" or a "warp to" menu option. Use that and see if it helps.

If it's not:
Warp to a belt in system, make sure your overview is using the default 'mining' one. Right click the little white lines in the top left of the overview to set this.

Still no roids in the belt?
They've been hovered up by someone else, check other belts in system then just warp to another gate and try the asteroid belts in the system next door.

Still nada?
Keep checking nearby systems or just buy the ore from the market and move on with the tutorials..

Belts are finite and respawn at downtime. Even the ore in the game is gained by direct player vs player competition. You got to get there first and mine it faster than the other guy.

The rookie systems are terrible for mining, because they are totally safe (CCP prohibit ganking there) which attracts multiboxers and botters who prevent actual rookies actually getting the ore.

As a consequence, you will usually need to go 2 jumps away to find a belt.

Your alternative is to purchase that ore from the market. It's your decision. The final reward for that tutorial is worth a lot more than the ore will cost you.

I went to Jouvulen the other day to meet my RL mate who just started playing... I was sat outside the station and saw a guy with an Orca undock and several T2 mining barges undock at the same time, it was pretty obvious he was multiboxing as they all did everything at the same time. This is just after DT in a rookie system, the belts where gone a few hours later.

I find people like this absolutely disgusting in this game, they are in a starter system and mining it out. When new players can't find asteroids or ask in local they don't even have the decency to speak up and tell them. He was at the keyboard to because the guy was telling in local me how "it's illegal to bump him off the asteroids in that system and he was reporting me" (although he used much more colourful words).

I continued to bump him until my friend showed up, much to this players annoyance.

To the OP: As other have stated most of the time its a case of having to move a few systems away from starter systems and trade hubs. Other times its a case of having to move several jumps, its all a matter of what time you play. Belts respawn at downtime which is at 11am evetime.

In regards to seeing other systems etc. press F10 for the wonderful star map (I prefere mine in 3D mode, but it can be flattened). Eve is massive. Over 5000 systems, some 'safer' that others. Then you have the Wormholes, which is a whole new map by itself, although there is no ingame map fpr the wormhole systems. The map will simply show K-space (Known space which is hisec, lowsec and nullsec). There is also a side map (which I believe is F11, someone correct me if I am wrong) which will show the regional links and a topographical view of the current solar system.

Use the D-Scan (Alt+D the directional scan tab) combined with your overview to find things and pinpoint them (probably best to youtube how to dscan because it can be gard to grasp how its done from just words. (Honestly though, it is a lot easier than it looks/sounds).

Most important thing to do is have a play around, ask 'stupid questions', learn and have fun. Use this thread to ask more questions when you stumble on to something you don't understand. Usually someone can help you.

Welcome to Eve, and hope your experience isn't too tarnished by risk averse pansies mining out new player systems. Big smile

Feel free to ask questions and don't feel stupid asking how to do 'x' or where do I find 'y'. Just make sure you search the web for it first as usually the question has already been asked before. Also make sure to check out the stickies at the top of the subforum. Some really useful stuff regarding the UI, overview and skills up there.

Have fun.

Is he in a player corp? Maybe I could check out newbie systems for obviously not newbies wasting space and declare war. Blowing him up would gain great satisfaction and probably generate many tears if simply bumping him caused a few.

You know what, I actually didn't check Shocked probably should have done.
Next time I am in there, my friend is currently basing out of there while he does the tutorials and what not on weekends, I will make sure to check should he undock and mine again... And I shall pass along the details Twisted

Everyone in a better mining ship than a Venture cannot seriously considered a "Rookie" anymore and thus no longer falls under the special protection regarding CCPs "Rookie-systems", imo....

Rookie systems should act as lowsec systems for any accounts over 2 weeks old. This should keep farmers from taking advantage of rookie status they do not merit.

Rookie systems are for doing tutorials and very basic familiarization., non rookies should only come into system to help rookies, buy and sell goods, recruit, drop message cans, or request/run missions.

There should be definite and tangible penalties for those non-rookies in system who negatively affect rookie tutorial mission completion. I would gladly drop what I was doing and fly across the universe for the pleasure of doing so myself.

In you main ui when you undock - click at the mission and the "warp to". It is possible you need to visit a certain place in order to complete the mission anyway (regardless if you actually have the minerals or not).

If it's not the case - just use a stargate to jump into a different system and look around for belts (right click in space - asteroid belts - warp to). Should you want to find your home eventually - click on "assets" then the place you have your staff in and right click "set destination" - it will highlight all the stargates along the way yellow.

IIRC the tutorial mining sites are all in mission pockets. If you mine from the belts there's a good chance the mission won't flag as complete.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Ramming speed... Align your ship to them (or thier current course) and set full speed Big smile

Seriously, you can get some ships really far from their original position! Haha

Please read the mission text carefully, the mission description adds flavor but when you drill down to it, the mission objective is often a lot simpler that you initially assume.

It has been a while since I did the rookie missions and things might have changed, but back then there was no mission that required you to go searching for asteroids and mining them in the public system belts.

If you were ever required to mine something you got a bookmark to a specific mission location where you would find the asteroids you needed. No other player could have got to that location before you and all you needed was 2 or 3 minutes to get the required ore.

There was one or more missions that required you to deliver regular ore or minerals to the agent. Invariably you can buy these off the market in the same station and deliver them immediately. That is in no way cheating, the agent doesn't care how you got the goods, in fact I'd say that is part of the sandbox learning process. Get used to looking for alternative ways to complete your objectives and pick the one that is most convenient / fun for you.

A similar situation exists with the manufacturing tutorials. Some give you a BPC and ask you to deliver the built item. Some of those BPCs are for Civilian items (a shuttle I think) which you cannot buy off the market and thus have to manufacture. Others are for ships or items you already possess (a venture I think is one) and the manufacturing time exceeds the mission bonus time. Assuming you haven't rigged it, repackage the one you already have and hand it over or buy one off the market. Keep the BPC until you need another Venture for yourself. Remember you are going to be moving away from the starter system shortly and a venture BPC is a lot easier to transport than a venture.

The advanced combat tutorial are another where you can save yourself a lot of Isk if you read the mission carefully and do only what is asked.

Two of those missions require you to lose ships. The first requires you to fly a supplied ship to a location where it blows up destroying the target. There is no requirement to fit any modules to this ship, so don't and make sure you insure it first.

The second mission requires you to enter a deadspace room and fight to the death killing at least one of your enemies, which means of course you do actually have to fit up your ship this time. You enter and there is one easy NPC and when you kill him a fleet spawns and kills you. Simple right? But there is nothing stopping you warping out, reshipping into a cheaper ship, even a noob ship and completing the second objective (dying) in that.

Read the mission text and do only what you have to.

Confirming this is a giggle, hit someone hard enough and you can knock them huge distances. It's normally a tactic used on freighters to stop them warping before they get ganked, but has been used to target miners too. In the case of miners 5-20 KM is relatively easy to achieve, 40-60KM is possible with the right ship and some luck.

Cruisers are great for it, http://www.minerbumping.com/2012/08/how-do-i-fit-my-stabber.html shows a fit and some techniques to give you ideas if you want to indulge in this particular Eve sport. Be prepared to be insulted, threatened, have your mothers honour questioned etc, some people get kind of mad when you do it. EvilPirate

Set up a couple of giant secure containers as goalposts between 50 and 100 KM from a belt, get some friends and see how many miners you can knock through them.

Thanks for the link. Can mining barge use its higher mass to prevent the bump? I mean, covetor is 4 times heavier, then the Staber Fleet Issue. Even though it will have much lower speed (no MWD), it still has comparable impetus due to higher mass. If Covetor hit incomming stabber, will it get smaller bump?

The microwarpdrive increases the mass of the Stabber by 5,000,000 KG to approx 16,000,000 KG(assuming a 10MN MWD), combined with the speeds involved (approx 2KM/s) it pretty much negates any mass advantage that an exhumer or barge has.

16000(ish) tons travelling at Mach 5.8(ish) is a whole lot of energy.

It's also great to use of people are trying to burn back to the gate to escape a camp... Done correctly you can stop someone from escaping via the Stargate and still keep them in point (warp disruption) range...

You can mine from anywhere, as long as you warp to the location before turning in the mission.
