What would keep you playing for another 10 years?

I want to start by saying that this isn’t intended to be a troll post – I wanted to setup a poll but there doesn’t appear to be the facility to do it.

The Summer Expansion approaches and imho, the endless ship rebalancing program and the “Building better Worlds” announcement is all very nice, but does anyone else feel the frustration and want something new? – some actual new content?

I agree that some things need fixing… but if you could have some brand new content what would it be?

As a builder I would personally like to see:
Idea Player built gun platforms for defending destructible outposts.
Idea Player built stargates.
Idea Player built gun platforms for defending player built stargates.
Idea A choice of damage types for fighters per race.
Idea A choice of damage types for fighter bombers per race.
Idea Add a 3rd fighter type, i.e. fighter bombers that fire bombs and fighter craft that fire missiles.
Idea Another empire besides Amarr, Cal, Gal & Min… maybe one of the ancient races or the Jove, and not just the odd incursion.
Idea A new set of regions.
Idea Other classes of T3 ship… why are there just cruisers?
Idea Solar (sun) harvesters – for new building materials.
Idea Point defenses (a group of auto-targeting missiles maybe) for titans at the expense of a Hi slot.

... you get the idea,
...so, What would keep you playing for another 10 years?

Removal of CONCORD from highsec would keep me playing for at least another 5, assuming the supply of tears wouldn't dry up.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

There's no feature or features that'd get me subbing for ten years more. What I want to see is continued effort to support what players are doing in the game and improve core mechanics so they they're fun and induce emergent gameplay. I think CCP's doing pretty well on that. Crimewatch and ship balancing are my favourite features of the expansions I've seen, and the upcoming 'industry expansion' has me excited.

As long as CCP continues failing upwards, I'll keep a sub up, I think

Seeing this game become the new way Science Fiction is consumed, that no longer to people simply read books or watch a show on TV, but actually participate in the story, live.

Imagine if STTNG was an MMO at it's prime and instead of just knowing about the battle with the Borg at Wolf 359, people actually commanded ships in it?

CCP is sitting on something that could change science fiction forever. Who would want to go back to watching some TV show or reading a book? And it's not at all like such things would be cast aside, but simply augment it.

Though whether or not the "anchor" is the MMO or some series is in question, or what could come first. But if done the right way with the proper application of media (game, books, TV series, etc) - a sci-fi genre that people can actually participate in instead of there just being an MMO or just passively watching on TV (though the choice to do either exclusively could not be denied) would be HUGE.

Hopefully they take on this opportunity. And if they do, most of us will still be playing in 10 years no matter what content is added.

it really does suck how long it takes to train even the most "basic" things talked about for different aspects of the game right now

Procedural star map generation with real exploration (unknown systems and planets) + avatar gameplay (exploration with procedural "dungeons", tower defense) can do the trick.

TL;DR Nothing CCP could do.

It feels really great to finally be able to fly what you've spent a lot of time to train for. I have a hard on right now for Enyos but I'm waiting for it until I have better skills. If you could fly all ships and use all of modules from day it wouldn't be as fun.

A complete overhaul of PVP combat GUI.

Don't get me wrong, i love EVE PVP as it is and I'll probably play 10 years more anyway. And I'm not thinking of Star Citizen style dogfights (if they will EVER actually exist Twisted).

But surely there must be SOMETHING more engaging and capable of effectively conveying battlefield intel than a spreadsheet-style overview with no graphics (just letters and numbers) and a bunch of coloured squares on a (mostly) black backdrop?

Maybe Oculus Rift will one day be the answer, since displaying 3D info on a 2D screen is inherently ineffective...

Make space glamorous! Is EVE dying or not? Ask the EVE-O Death-o-meter!

Absolutely incorrect.

Unless Carriers and Jumpships are basic to you.

I'd like to see:

A limit to the amount of people you, corps and alliances can set to blue.
A much shorter limit to the amount of members as well as corps an alliance can hold.

In short I'd like to see more smaller alliances and corps and less of cfcs.

Ultimately lots of alliances maxed out in members fighting more and diplo less.

Then I'd like to see:

A limit on the number of systems an alliance can control
A limit on the number of people that can be docked in a station
A limit on the number of people that can be in a system
A limit to the number if bridges an alliance can hold

In short I'd like eve to become more of skills win rather than numbers and sov amount.

Like in WoW.

that's probably the thing that would keep me playing..

Not really.

I haven't come close to exhausting all that EVE has and i've been playing since June 2007. Even then, after a while, i go back to old 'content' to see how things are now after various changes (like COSMOS now that npcs switch aggro and such or doing the epic arcs with MJD battleships ect).

When I decided to try EVE i asked around about it 1st. I was told it was a super long term investment type game unlike most MMOs and that if I wanted any kind of instant (or even slightly delayed) gratification I should choose something else. That's how I knew EVE was for me.

Even after CCP wisely stopped with the "add Jesus feature and then act like it's really Jesus and forsake it 3 days later" thing (lol) , my interest in EVE hasn't waned.

I'm learning the new ins and outs of the tech1 cruisers and frigs, rediscovering my love of the Cerberus, getting some more PVP time every week after a long hiatus from combat and getting pirate faction standings for 2 tengu pilots so i can do NPC null missions for a faction i haven't used yet. The Angel Cartel LP store is a thing of beauty.

EVE is a sandbox, if you aren't having fun it's not the sand's fault. EVE isn't the kind of game you should play if you need to rely on CCP adding more and more fun things for you to do.

Sov fix. If sov was held by actively living there and lost when not, or some other thing that isn't bloody structure grinding, it'd open the door for new entities in nul that dont have to kowtow to the coalitions. THAT would keep me, no questions asked.
