I myself participate in big fleets that sometimes kill 1 isolate ship or pod, I don't find too much fun in that. "Get him, get him!" Ok, but why?
When killing the enemy in the context of - sov warfare, that adds something like a story to participate in, still killing a lonely ship while in a fleet - of course a fleet can kill a ship, where's the joy in that.

The "market" for 1 v 1 content exists and it's huge. I am sure every player including myself, was thinking about it when he started playing.
EVE is a team game, imagine playing Starcraft, but with the exception of fair duels between friends, you always fight too many or too few opponents, also their skill and even the army they can use is random, you must be lucky to find one on your level, to feel your skills affect the outcome, to have a challenge.

1 v 1 content is very hard to find. I don't want to hear about duels, that's something else. Players want to feel how their training affects their combat in fair fights. The same way I feel my training for exploration affects that experience, It's a huge difference now, can't say the same about the combat experience - fleet combat is quite the same as it was 1 year ago.

Here's a post on reddit, you can see people are looking for 1 v 1:

A while ago I wrote something about a continuous tournament being organized by CCP in one system, and I got downvoted and got people angry because I want to "change the sandbox" . I don't want that, I want to add something to it, an experience that all players seek.

My new improved idea:

Players want to participate in 1 v 1 or 2 v 2 or even X v Y fights. Players want to use - select ship type for those fights. Players want to encounter - select enemy ship types. Maybe even select a betting range.
They talk to a "Tournament agent", they get a spot in a system somewhere to get to. Maybe scale the ship types that a player can select to encounter from high to null sec. The spot they warp to cannot be scanned, they wait there. Other players in the area do the same, and if the game finds a suitable fight, they get the safe spot coordinates. Maybe - the spot is a mini wormhole, separated from the system it spawns in. And they cannot warp or go anywhere else while there.

This is my basic idea. Ranks, prizes, spectators, improvements, isk bets, twitch shows - all these can be added later.

What does it change in the sandbox? Nothing. Some may say "It's unfair that I cannot scan that spot where people go for fair fights". Well - they would not be sitting in that spot anyway if it was not for this system, so you would not have anything to scan down. The same way CONCORD exist in high sec (rules in the sandbox), you could say the tournament agents are part of a pirate faction that uses it's technology to create unscannable fight spots (addition to sandbox), for the purpose of betting on fights. People will still rat, mine and travel through gates, because they will need isk to get those ships blown up in the fair fights.

You become a fighter that gets isk from bets placed on him in fights organized by this pirate faction that got bored watching space rocks. You talk to their agent, you get a fight in a safe spot. People would have to go talk to these agents, and travel to specific systems in low and null, same as mission agents. More traffic and action in low and null.

First off, quit excluding fighting on gates. It's a great place to fight.

Second, I understand the frustrations in finding a moderately balanced fight, but that has everything to do wtih where you are fighting. Move if the area is stale.

Finally, I really don't think EvE needs arenas. They won't be "fair" because people will "cheat" using off grid boosters, using faction mods and implants, and more.

Some had put a post in GD about a very similar concept a few days ago.

There was a slight difference on their suggestion... They were thinking of setting up their own Arena, without needing anything added to the game. Half of the replies in GD didn't actually read their post, of course, thinking it was what you are talking about. The post was called "Dueling Area?" I believe. (That title didn't help.)

EVE is a sandbox, why don't you set something up?

It's easy enough to get rid of or control boosts, have the combatants fleet up with a 3rd player who provides equal boosting or no boosting at all to both. Use the existing duel mechanic to control aggression. Setup your own set of rules, brackets, fitting classes (T1 frigates w/ Meta 4 mods only for instance) or whatever you want. You might even make a profit, if you charge a fee for your services.

You'd still have the possibility of other players interfering, but that should be manageable.

Find a few other players and make it happen. The people who wrote that GD thread were interested in managing something like this, you are interesting in fighting in something like this... What might that suggest?

If the market for 1v1 fights is so huge, how come you don't find each other more often?

This.

I thought it was a great idea for a player-run business. Some suggestions:

1) do it in Jita

2) allow betting (as the other players suggested)

3) make a chat channel

4) make a teamspeak channel, have a decent live commentator for the fights

5) post matches and results (including ISK bet) in Jita local. just the essentials, don't spam

Profit!

Also, provided you put some decent effort in it:

- if people are actually interested, it will work

- if it doesn't work, it means people aren't interested

This sounds entertaining and i would watch it all the time if there was a twitch channel or something like that. I do think if it was set up kinda like the alliance turnement. where there is a beacon and you have to stay in a designated area i would work well. Like i said I would watch and bet.
