I should probably add that Vultures only have five turret slots. The two utility highs are meant for gang links, though you can stuff whatever you want in there.

Ok so after more work and more google (thanks eve uni forums http://forum.eveuniversity.org/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=75782&sid=5f9ddef189e2941c81b9a5080dddef31&start=15)

ferox :

Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
power diagnostic system II
Tracking Enhancer II

Large Shield Extender II
Large Shield Extender II
Desert heat thermic dissipation field
nugget kinetic field
experimental 10mn afterburner

6 250mm prototype gauss guns with antimatter

3 medium core defense field purger I

Vulture:

Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Tracking Enhancer II

Large Shield Extender II
Large Shield Extender II
nugget kinetic field
nugget kinetic field
experimental 10mn afterburner
shield recharger II

2 meduim core defense field extenders.

Ferox has dps 259, ehp 37k 68 therm resist and 76% kinetic resist, tanks 124 dps and its cap lasts 6m 37
vulture has dps 243, ehp 56.3k 84% therm resist and 93.8% kinetic resist, tanks 113 dps and it cap lasts 10m 41 secs

If I fit the vulture with 2 kinetic deflection IIs I get cap stable at 46% with 91.5% kin resist.
if I get my advanced weapons upgrade enough to fit the 7th gun on the ferox I get 303 dps.

So in conclusion, for a small loss in dps you increase your health pool by 50% and probably take a third of the damage from rats (if my understanding of how resistances work is correct) mobilty and warpout times are so close they aren't worth mentioning and ofc your cap stable with the vulture. Can a vulture do part ten of kidnappers? I have no idea.

I really don't see why you would use a Vulture for any of this, a BC with good skills and a good fit should do all Lvl 3s with minimal difficulty, and for Level 4s a BS will be far more efficient.

I cant speak for the OP, but I've lost my ferox in level 3s. Was looking for better options. I found it by using a heron/tarya and spamming distribtion missions while declining all combat storylines. I've researched the Rokh for level 4s and theres a general agreement its a bad ship for them and I will probably lose that too. Combat missions will have to wait a year until I get round to missile skills.

Vulture Vs. Ferox: + 20% Dps, +50% Range, + 45% EHP, +200% Cost.

Yup... Looks like every other T2 ship in the game currently.

I'm pretty sure that the mission that you mentioned losing your Ferox in was one in which you only had to kill a structure, not kill the room.

There are a few like that. Recon 1/3 is famous for that in level 4's... You are not meant to fight, just to do something and get out. (Recon spawns high level BS's every minute or so... All you have to do is reach a gate 20 KM away in that one - people who don't read objectives tend to die in it really quickly.)

Am I doing this wrong btw?

Passive tanks are not a good idea on most ships.
your ferox would be much better with damage and tracking mods on the lows and a shield booster + shield resist mods (T2 plz) in the mids. You should change resist mods every mission depending on what the mission is (ie guristas use 2 kinetic and 1 thermal hardener). It won't be cap stable but as you can turn the shield booster on and off this doesn't matter.
Higher dps /better tracking means you kill things faster. This means better income and lower incoming damage.
If you struggle to tank then try a shield boost amplifier or a cap booster.

TLDR
Don't use passive tanks.
Don't try and be cap stable.
Moar dps.

thanks to the above posters. I appreciate yr words. I was having fun until I got squished and was looking for a solution. Apparantly the solution (according to E survival) was to bring a raven. (http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=KidnappersStrike3gu).

I'll have another go at the combat missions, see if I can make them work for me and my little ferox As far as I can tell though its missiles for pve and guns for pvp. Im balls deep in my gun skills, plus dieing in merlins is fun! espec when I can get a kill :) I cant afford to lose ferox's though..

Raven is the easiest option for low-SP. At Higher SP, Guns are better. Instant damage, better alpha/dps at long ranges, can 1-shot frigs when they burn at you from range.

Drones become even better than guns with sick Drone SP imo - They use no ammo and are afk friendly... you don't even need to specify targets: You can spend your time with medium/small guns killing frigs while the sentries blap the big ships.
