I wouldnt start over again, because of all the work I put into this character, but if I did I probably wouldnt train the refining skills

Now, more than ever, we need a dislike button.

I wouldn't change a thing.

I would rebirth myself exactly as I am now, because I am perfect.

I'd start Gallente and get working on the skills to fly a Vexor adequately.

Brain: The same thing we do every millennium, Pinky-o. Try to take over the galaxy!

What would I do if I had to start over?

I would throw myself back into PvP... focusing mostly at the frigate to cruiser level. And I would never train any capital ship skills.

In my RL I would be less addicted to eve. EVE has cost me actual RL relationships....sad yes, uncommon I think not. That I would change. There are several IRL people I would like to have back.

I would quit and write a whiney goodbye post claiming that bitter noobs can never catch up with vets because I started 8 minutes and 20 seconds after some one else did. And because I was tying my shoe instead of playing EVE I will never be able to 'catch up' and be as good at the game as those guys that are 8 minutes and 20 seconds ahead of me.

What would I do different?

Jump in my rookie ship and attack everyone I see. Use plex to fund character instead of wasting my time with pve.

Rookies don't realize the advantages they have with super cheap clones. The joy of attacking everyone with almost no penalty is very liberating.

I can still fly cheap frigates and attack everything, but the clone prices put me in a position where I'd rather play an alt.

THats a biased opinion. obviosuly I would stop playing, as Ive invested years to get where I am and what I have, to be told to start all over with nothing would make my past choices meaningless, taking away any sentiment I had for the game.

This is what I dont like about people who argue against vets about how hypocritical they are for not wanting to start as a new player if new players are so "fine". Its literally like saying little league isnt a good sport because professional baseball players dont want to quit their 6 figure jobs (which is ridiculous pay) to go play little league again, when in truth they DID play little league, succeeded, and went on with further practice to eventually join pro-leagues, that doesnt mean little leagues are bad, just that they had already been through that, earned their stripes, and would not wish to go through it again, but they will acknowledge if they hadnt they wouldnt have gotten to where they are today.

What about the relationships you've forged with other players and the community in general?. If they biomass everyone's character, does that make everything else meaningless?

I agree that Divine was a bit biased. There would be some annoyance, which might lead many to quit. But I don't think it would render all that time and fun I've had meaningless myself.

If I lose my character, I still have my player skills, which are more important than SP anyway. I still have my friends. I still have my stories to tell. I still have a wealth of community sites to lean on. I still have fanfest to go to and toss offal in the faces of all the deves for biomassing my character. ... :P

Well seeing as I have no RL time at present to play, then nothing would change in that regard.

But I would play again and I would follow the same course of training. But with the knowledge I have and the changes made to the game since I started, things would be easier.

Serious answer ?

Focus.

- Sub for 6 months so I am not forever worrying about PLEX as a new character.
- put zilch skills into mining/industry or ships larger than a destroyer and focus on getting a single race of frigates up to scratch
- then run FW in an assault frigate.

Meanwhile I would probably also pay cash for one PLEX to give one of the free alts basic indy/PI training to get a bit of a ISK flow happening that did not depend on grinding missions and mining.

Thats about it really.

Posting in a stealth reset eve thread.

Saying that though, absolutely nothing as I do the same thing with my alt accounts. Just randomly choose skills when I need them :P

I'd probably still play even if I had to start over again, I might just spend a bit more time afk.

I'd consider buying a character from the Bazaar via plex purchased for real money though.

I started over last year. In fact, 1 year and 8 days ago now.

let me think, things I did different from my old character when I originally made that one. I focused very strongly on 1 race and 1 weapon system. On my original character I kind of trained a bunch of different things all at the same time. It was fun but the character initially wasn't really that great at anything. This time around I started with a clear goal. I got implants on the first day of playing and I spend A LOT more time on doing core skills. I'm only just about finished with those really, after 20m SP. :P

When I first played there was no such thing as remaps and you had to spend 3 months training learning and advanced learning first. This time I could skip that AND use the cerebral accelerator. Starting now is much faster and easier than it used to be. Doing the tutorial missions and then the SoE arc puts on on roughly 100mill isk. More than enough for 10-15 fitted Condors and start PvP. I should spend a bit more time on getting standings up with the empire factions I suppose, but meeh. Not that bothered about that.

Why would you feel loyal to the game after spending a considerable amount of money, time and effort.

I would quit the game in a fart beat.

Not sure to be honest, but I think I would likely keep playing.

Hard to say if I would do anything different either though, since the game has changed drastically since I started 9 years ago. It's actually much easier for new players now days than it once was.

There used to be no accelerated training in the earliest stages of the characters training.

15km was the closest you could warp to a gate or station (or anything) via autopilot or manual. Not going to mention the bookmark craze... I made a lot of money selling bookmarks on escrow back then. ;)

Aggression mechanics have been changed to make it easier on new players.

You don't have to worry about Learning Skills since they removed them from the game. (Thank god)

MANY skills were changed that made the pre requisite in the skill before it from 5 to 4 in order to make them more accessible to new players.

Tutorials are much better now than they once were. As opposed to just dropping you in front of an asteroid and saying "NOW MINE *****!" as you spend the next 30 minutes shooting your civilian hybrid rail gun at it.

SOV mechanics were even worse then than they are now. ;)

I think the game has gone in a good direction for player retention and namely new players, but I'm personally not so sure I would actually enjoy the earlier days as I once did. Hell even warp to 0 instantly made EVE seem much smaller than it once was. And one of the things that kept me around back then was the scale, scope, and complexity.

At this point I can fly every race with 5's in all corresponding frig, dest, cruiser, bc, bs, etc etc etc. I think another thing that would make it hard for me to start over would be the lack of variety in the ships I can choose to fly. I like not being restricted to a single race or ship class anymore.

I love this character. I am invested to a certain degree.

Would I mourn it' if I had to start again? Yes - for a while.

I've started enough characters without contacts that I could start again. I've reached a point where I log in for fun.

If I had to start again I would just have a much better idea of how to do it.

Aaaaaaand relax.
