The best moment in EVE is undocking in your Ibis for the first time to Miner Stories playing in the background. It's all gradually downhill from there, whatever you do.

I, ironically, started three new chars last night.

And they are all focus-trained toward my current professions.

So...

I guess, get by just fine?

Certainly better than when I created my first char.

Didn't have the handholding of today, and the NPE was more of a joke then.

Nope, it was, "Here's your noob ship, Welcome to EvE."

My options from Rookie Help were:

"Join a corp."

"Do the SOE arc."

or

"It's a sandbox, do what you want."

So...

I did what I wanted. Certainly wouldn't change due to skillpoints and lack of isk.

Once you realize what a joke everything is, being the comedian is the only thing that makes sense.

The ONE thing all of us share.

And they removed it.

I have to correct you.

It wasn't " Here's your noobship. Welcome to EVE."

It was "Here's a Rubiks Cube. Go **** yourself!"

Wouldn't do much differently.
My two (still active) toons had a solid head start ISK-wise from selling my first misfit. So the major difference would be that I'd have to make ISKies straight away. Not that difficult while training PVP skills anyway.

So basically, create PVP toon, fly cheap ships. Rat, mission, whatever to afford those.
Then create trader toon to make more ISK.

Nothing would change in RL. Not sure how that is even a thought that crossed your mind unless you're taking this game wayyyy to seriously or I completely misunderstood that one.

Can I assume that everyone is equally screwed in this scenario, or is it just me?

If everyone is equally screwed, meh, I don't care.

If it's just me, I skill into a destroyer, probably the Talwar or the Dragoon, and I run the Angel Epic Arc. With that initial capital, I can start marketing and scamming.

Then I buy a 20mil+ skillpoint character after a couple months, and call it good.

"Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

One of ours, ten of theirs.

THats a biased opinion. obviosuly I would stop playing, as Ive invested years to get where I am and what I have, to be told to start all over with nothing would make my past choices meaningless, taking away any sentiment I had for the game.

This is what I dont like about people who argue against vets about how hypocritical they are for not wanting to start as a new player if new players are so "fine". Its literally like saying little league isnt a good sport because professional baseball players dont want to quit their 6 figure jobs (which is ridiculous pay) to go play little league again, when in truth they DID play little league, succeeded, and went on with further practice to eventually join pro-leagues, that doesnt mean little leagues are bad, just that they had already been through that, earned their stripes, and would not wish to go through it again, but they will acknowledge if they hadnt they wouldnt have gotten to where they are today.

Right - if a vet did it on purpose of course they wouldn't rage quit and like someone else said...it'd go a whole lot faster this time around.

If it wasn't by choice that's a hard pill to swallow to lose all that time and effort but it doesn't negate the fact that noobs have it easier than we did when we started.

Is 'bitter noob' a thing these days?

Anyway...as for how I'd do it if I had to start over...

I'd focus on one race and weapon type and skill up accordingly. When I started I had nobody to show me anything so I was all over the place. I can fly quite a lot these days because of it but only one race really well and even so...not as well as I could if my training had been more focused.

well, intentionally, i suppose that would go quicker, took my FW alt all of a week from creation to start racking up kills in gallente FW, and that was only because i was being anal about havign at LEAST lvl 4 in relevant skills.

If we really want to see things get stirred up a bit, and see a way for CCP to take some money for the quick gratification crowd while teaching them a lesson, I would introduce a "Live Fast Die Young" option.

On character creation we would see the option to create genetically modified players who can earn SP at a much faster rate, but are capped depending on that rate, so that if say you are at 100 percent increased SP acquisition rate, you get capped at say 10 million SP. A slower rate has a higher cap but no enhanced player goes past 20 million.

And, because of the complexity of these hyper-accelerated brains, they cannot be cloned.

You die you fry. End of story go back to school.

And yes I would also make it so that there would be a way to identify these players - maybe have a huge knob on their head or something, or a big conehead maybe. So that everybody knows you are not coming back if they kill you.

I would also make it possible to create boosters from those large brains too, so the frozen corpse is worth a significant amount of ISK, and those boosters will temporarily enable a player to accelerate their own SP speed. (and there would be a limitation of how many you can create at a given time - the min maxers will game the hell out if that)

So the quick gratification type who will "want it nao" will be hunted and podded and their brains used to make stuff and they go back to the character creator all mad they didn't get cloned because they wanted everything up front but on the prospect of getting killed, they also exhibited that OTHER cancer of human thought process: "It can't happen to ME".

And no this would not be a boon for disposable suicide gank alts (since the present system and rules have not stopped suicide ganking so stop with the screeching you know who you are).

The possibilities!

If you grind through 1000 chars you'd have one thousand times 5k ISK...

... PLUS ONE THOUSAND TRITANIUM!

I'd waste no time on any mining or industry stuff and jump straight into PVP. I'd use my retained veteran knowledge to my advantage.

It wouldn't affect me much at all, but I think you're missing the point of eve. Your actions are permanent until someone screws it up. The loss wouldn't be the sp, the loss would be sovereignty, the loss would be starbases, the loss would be systems fought over and won. If you take every player and throw them back into high sec with no resources, I can't imagine them being happy.

I have often considered trying it out to see what happens. But I think the fact I know more about how the game works (and doesn't) than half the employees at CCP, I may be limited only by my SP... temporarily.

Nah, I bet we'd be back to the status quo before you know it. If everyone's skills get reset to starting, then the groups with organization and retained game knowledge from before the reset are going to just reconquer their territory. Which would be funny, I can imagine the forum whines from all the elite solo PVPers and small corps who "could make it in null if it weren't for goons" still not being able to winBig smile

lynx if you're looking to biomass i'll have no problems taking your t2 bpos before you do :P

are there any age limitations to that biomass proposal?
like 1-2yr old players in the game are safe

as for my older characters yea I would, I most definitely wouldn't have wasted skill points in area's that I have already in the past. also for this character in particular I'd split up her industry side considering shes skilled in all area's of industry so when it comes to chosing implants im screwed since using Zainou 'Beancounter' Refining RX-804 with the Zainou 'Beancounter' Industry BX-804 is impossible as they both take the same slot :P

I've recently played an alt without selling stuff on market, or buying other than skillbooks and BPOs (ie hard mode startup). All I can say to you is suck it up princess.

I also went through this procedure with a rust server that decided to reset the server monthly. each reset decimated the playerbase and its now nearly dead.

The only way I'm bio-massing my character is if I'm quitting the game. even then I would be tempted to sell it and give away the isk.
