The "Poor" Phoenix Dread :(

So I was checking the price history of Dreads in The Forge, which is of course a Caldari region, and the Caldari Dread, the Phoenix, is the least popular :(

I was thinking of training for it, now ain't so sure.

So why is the Phoenix so underused even in its own region ??

Because of Falcon.

I mean Missiles. Seriously, between the flight time, wasted volleys and the way missile damage is calculated, they are useless both at structure shoots and cap shoots. Rev/Moros simply do better at structures and Naglfars can Alpha anything short of a Titan.

Because it sucks.

It can't apply damage well, it gets the terrible kinetic damage bonus, the tank is mediocre, the list goes on. The fact it has never been fixed is more proof that CCP hates Caldari.

That's funny...it used to be "CCP hates Gallente" or is it just whatever boat people feel isn't being favored at the moment?

CCP has never hated Gallente. Blasters are still overpowered.

The difference being that the phoenix has been worthless since the day it was introduced. And has had literally no changes made to it other than generic dreadnought nerfs that applied to all the dreads anyway.

They updated the Pixels to make it prettier to station spin!

That awkward moment at the Gentlemen's Club when you see your sister on the stage....and you're not sure where to put the money....

Guys.

It's a capital class scan boat.

Just have them add some role bonuses aimed at scanning and problem solved.

Oh noes, and I been skilling missiles for so long, and only few weeks to fly the phoenix, and now it turns out to be useless!!

You're thinking about the game the wrong way. I really mean that.

Your racial identity is purely a roleplaying thing. You should not be limiting yourself to your given race when it comes to ship use. The phoenix is the worst dread. There are a number of reasons for it, but realistic caldari pilots who want to fly a dread will train one of the others.

I am amarr, and yet amarr is one of my least developed skill trees. I've not virtually zero skills put into lazor beams.

You should train towards what's good. Train towards best-in-role or a ship with a playstyle you like. Abandon utterly the notion that your character's race matters at all, it's all about what ship does the job the best.

The phoenix doesn't do anything very well. If you want to pilot a dread, train for another one or accept that you're going to remain useless.

The Phoenix is a very good Dreadnought, the problem is that it can't do much outside of its role and it can't really armor tank. But technically it is the perfect Dreadnought.

It's easy to armor tank any ship.

Put 2 1600MM plates on it, 2 EANM IIs, and use the mids for ECM.

yeah either give it like Capital Rapid Torpedo Launchers or Capital Rapid Cruise Launchers or fit Extra Large Rails but the idea and implementation of Citadel Cruise and Citadel Torp missiles seems bad in theory and practice.
