Ok background sotry

My Santa Fe gave up the ghost and its now imitating a good looking bookend after 10 years reliability.

Now price vise both are the same
Engine 3.5 3.3 respectively and fuel economy is the same.

The problem is I know all about Hyundai and sweet nothing about Nissan.

I have test drove both and the Nissan is a more sporty handling as opposed to the XL that almost has a mini van feel to it.

What i am asking from all of you is some constructive input or better yet if you do own a Murano your experience with the vehicle.

Reliability does it age well (Nissan is only doing 3 year warranty 5 years for Hyundai). Any info would help to make a decision.

For those that will chime in "buy domestic" (I did then i bought my Santa Fe)

Thanks for your time and input.

Well first thing first, do you need something this big?

My pet hate for pointlessly big cars aside, this is an honest question because big cars cost more to run and whats the point in shelling out a fortune on something you don't need.

On the build quality, I cannot speak for the US but I worked at the nissan plant in the UK and build quality is rather good although the engines are not as good on emissions and fuel conservation as say, the ford engines used in the focus/fiesta. But again, this is uk engines, we expect a minimum of over 60 mpg over here from new cars with many newer models hitting 75 mpg.

Word has it though that the nissan is nice to drive and is rather roomy. It only came out as a limited edition over here so I'm not sure if you get the rear view camera but if you do I have to say its a damn good toy to have (Drove a Qashqai with one installed) and makes parking so easy even for a car with such fat thighs.

Do you have any other options you would consider? Also what do you want/need out of it?

Well starting off the santa fe was a great little work truck carried all my tools and test equipment (network/broadcast integration)
and on the weekends I could pile 4 guys and four golf bags to hit the links.

Life is a constant change and now I am with a new company and they are providing me with a work vehicle. (read no wear and tear or $ 300 a week for gas anymore)

Do i need such a large vehicle, in all honesty no but i do like my V6 (translate that to I like to stomp on it) 4 bangers get lax over years and they cry.

So this vehicle will be kinda daddy's toy where i can keep the kms down due to having a work vehicle.

The major thing for me is I tore my left knee a long time ago and getting in/out low cars guarantees that i will be hobbling once or twice a year. This is eliminated in a higher suv/truck

The smaller crossovers are all mpg and no option to get v6 including escape, tucson, rav4,

The Cherokee and Journey is 2 that comes out Cherokee was reintroduced this year for jeep.

Here is the ones i test drove

Nissan Rouge
(only comes as a I4 and 4 year old model shed tears when we hit the highway)
Nissan Pathfinder

Nissan Murano a little hesitancy but she moves

Kia sportage
Kia sorento both i4 and v6 the latter was much better drive

Hyundai
Tucson
Santa fe sport 2.4
Santa fe xl 3.3

Looked at but not test driven

in no paticular order

Enclave
Acadia
Journey
Terrain
Edge
Escape
Cx5
Cx9

I am sure i am forgetting a few cars I have pounded the pavement with alot of dealerships to the point of being disenchanted with the whole process.

As I am writing this maybe I need to step back and take a second and step away from the car buying.

I feel a bit stupid for hauling around 3700 pounds of car for the sake of my unattached, 160lb self. domestic and i like it.

I also find the import factory warranties very attractive 10yr/100k miles whaat

however, that would mean driving one.

so the way i see it, shameless domestic or not so shameless import with great service plan.

if you're locked in for practical reasons, go for the one with better service plan first, and those being equal, better gas mileage, and those being equal, better price... and those being equal, how the seats fold down for utility.

and then ask the mrs what she wants and pick that.

perspective/grain of salt: I wouldn't want to drive any type of family hauler. my vanity is strong and minivan-type car is one of the top reasons why I am ok with being single. it's superficial but so am i, and far too much in love with myself.

and kate.

Nissan family type cars tend to have good power, handling, and brakes, i know that much. Odysseys have crazy brakes, in fact.

Personally, I need a bigger vehicle to pull my camper. Hence, I tend to drive minivans.

I really really like the look of the Murano. I brought my Kia Sedona into the dealer for an inexpensive oil change and was talking to the service writer about Muranos. He said the older ones were expensive on maintenance. Something about the control arms being very pricey to replace when they get worn. The newer ones didn't have that issue.

Honestly, choose the vehicle that you would be comfortable in 5-10 years down the road. It sounds like you've had plenty of experience with Hyundai.

When I was younger, I looked for whatever got me from Point A to Point B the cheapest. In my dotage, I like amenities.

Whatever you feel comfortable with. You will be mated with it for a while.

@ Rain

That is a nice car, and domestics are certainly not out,the edge and the escape still come around to say hi.

Today instead of playing eve I am hitting the ford dealership.

The Mrs would prefer the Murano but she says we have to test drive again (her exact words were if the Santa fe and her car were in the drive way she would take her car, if the murano was in place of the Santa fe she would take the murano).

My 21 month old past out in the Santa fe as we test drove(not sure how to count that Big smile)

@ Random

Agreed amenities are getting to be a huge plus ( I deserve to be spoiled a little i think)

Thank your to both for you input you may not believe it but it does help.
