Kirjuun, men and women of Jaalan Kirjuunet we have entered the militia forces of the Minmatar Republic. We are at war. This has happened because our peoples' have failed to uphold their duty to their own honour and best interests, and continue to oppress and subjugate the Matari; because the vital interests of our peoples' are imperilled, and because the right of all to self-determination are assailed a state of war now exists between us, and our own people. This declaration, which we have striven so strenuously to avoid, is undertaken with grave solemnity.

The guilt for our supposed betrayal is not with us, but lies upon our people for their stubborn resistance to all good reason, and a committment to settle by armed might what we would have settled by negotiation and deliberation. They may say that the reddish veil that is drawn over the faces of our peoples flames a new disaster for our races; but it will be the dawn!

But before the dawn comes our darkest hour, both ours and our peoples. So Jaalan Kirjuunet give of your best in the service of this corporation. There is a place and part for all of us. Each and everyone of us must take their place in the service of the corporation, for the corporation is for our peoples, and our peoples themselves are in peril. All that we have done in our lives to save our civilisations must be as nothing compared to the efforts we must now put forward!

The success of our mission, the continued prosperity and the freedom of each of our disparate civilisations, and our very lives depends upon one thing. That is the cooperation, the strength, and the willpower of you, the Jaalan Kirjuunet. Without it everything is indeed lost. The call goes forth to you, for your courage, your physical and mental ability, so much more than a mortal man. Your peoples appeal to you to save them, for mark well that your people - Amarr, Caldari, and Minmatar - are the stake in this conflict.

Our futures will be secured only by the valour with which we fight, and the utmost industry of the factory and the workshop. So let there be no idle hand! The road before us is one of service, so let us all - together - tread it firmly and victoriously!

We, Caldari, Amarr, Minmatar, we all have imperishable traditions. They are at stake. We struggle to maintain them. But more than this we shall vindicate them. Capsuleers this is a tocsin! Join us as Jaalan Kirjuunet. Kirjuun come forth, be born in this struggle and live to make man's day of manhood great and fair! We shall outfly the sphered suns of a hundred thousand systems, and hasten our hours and halt not till our work is done!

It's a very hopeful sign to see people of conscience band together to fight injustice regardless of their ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Welcome to the fight and good luck brave pilots of Jaalan Kirjuunet.

Tocsin? The last time I saw that word was when I was reading an anarchist manifesto as part of a political theory course. Interestingly, doesn't the word have old Gallentean roots?

What's more, Toralen, if you're serving in the Republic's militia, then you are at war with the State. It's one thing to negotiate with the Federation; it's another thing to fight with their ally, and by extension to fight alongside the Federation.

What I mean by all that is this: you are no kirjuun of mine.

Traitor scum like Jaalan Kirjuunet are kirjuun of no Caldari and the State.
They have chosen to be kirjuun instead to primitive tribals and terrorists, who fight against our glorious State and our trusted allies Amarr Empire.

Citizens of the State, remember this day as a sad day, when another of our brethren stopped being one of us, and turned his weapons against you.

Remember face of Mir Toralen, because it is a face of treason.
Remember name of corporation Jaalan Kirjuunet, because it is a name of treason.

They are enemies of the State now. And we will fight them, like Caldari, with fire and steel, until the last drop of blood.

Show these traitors no mercy.
Glory to the State!

Honored are the dead, for their legacy guides us.

A tocsin is simply an alarm, it is a word like any other. Not being a linguist I shall not debate its roots, but allow me to address the sentiment expressed by your comment upon it.

For your interest speaks of the sway the past has over us all... but the glory of the State, its endurance and vindication does not lay in the past but in the present and posterity. It is the cradle that must have more sway over us than the grave - or else we risk everything.

Sadly yes we are at war with the State and it pains me more than any can imagine, and while that may make me a traitor I implore you to consider carefully before condemning. While my actions put me at war with my homeland, I undertake them to save my homeland. Read my response to Diana which will further elucidate this.

In solidarity with you Makato.

Your passion is admirable, but a single coolly considered position is worth a hundred passionate and hasty ones - the thing is not to apply heat, but light to the situation. So please allow me a moment.

You call the Minmatar primitive tribals, but their mechanical expertise was (and in many ways given their limited resources still is) without equal. Further did not the Gallente call our traditions, our views, our State primitive? Did they not too try to force upon us a system of society and government which would destroy all that we are?

The Minmatar are not the natural and inimical enemies of the State. We are both proud peoples who have resisted the oppression of a foreign power, and having thrown off the shackles by which were bound know look forward to the future - a Caldari future or a Minmatar future, not one dictated by anyone other than ourselves.

If honourable concepts mean nothing to you, and I fully accept they might, let me then posit a utilitarian reason for our struggle with them. Each day the State continues to support the slavery and oppression of the Minmatar people is a day that drives all Minmatar towards the Gallente Federation. Strengthening the Federation with numbers that neither we nor the Amarr can match, and with a mechanical expertise that allowed rusting old hulls to destroy and shatter the best of the Imperial Navy. Surely you cannot condone the empowerment of the Federation so?

You attack us with fervour and vigour, but such white hot patriotism serves no one. Patriotism is not the fiery outburst of a moment, it is the patient and steady dedication of a lifetime - and given the lifetime capsuleers such as us can expect to live, imagine what good we may accomplish?

This is madness, it is blasphemy.

I agree that our people have no inherent reason to war on the Matari - save for the Matari's own declaration of war upon US in support of their allies, the Gallente.

You remember the Gallente? The real enemy in Black Rise? The enemy you will now be aiding and succoring?

Flying in support of the Matari I can forgive a thousand, thousand times. Flying in support of the Gallente? No.

For the first time since I started the conversation, he looks me dead in the eye. In his gaze are steel jackhammers, quiet vengeance, a hundred thousand orbital bombs frozen in still life.

Toralen, consider your words. You speak of cradle instead of grave; of progeny instead of death. But what of the cradle that harbored you? What of the death that came before, the sacrifice of your fellow citizen fighting to preserve the nascent State? Birth and death are constants; they came before us, they accompany us, they will follow us. We can escape neither, even as nigh-immortals; by it we are given purpose, both in preserving life, and in dispensing death.

And the quote? I found him. One of those wild-eyed Gallente thinkers you hear about in certain circles. The political theory class had several weeks focusing on Gallente extremist philosophies, ranging from nationalist to anarchist. The thinker was-- I think he was Intaki? Hakim Bey. I found the quote. "The slogan 'Revolution!' has mutated from tocsin to toxin, a malign pseudo-Gnostic fate-trap, a nightmare where no matter how we struggle we can never escape that evil Aeon, that incubus the State, one State after another, every 'heaven' ruled by yet one more evil angel."

If I recall the discussion sections following, he was railing against the Sansha and their utopian and essentially totalitarian vision as an even worse enemy than the State, even as he railed against the State as antithesis to his libertine, libertarian and ultimately anarchistic views. Even more entertainingly, he argues that revolution and insurgency are useless, because anarchy inevitably results in a new nation in its wake as people inevitably order themselves.

Your writing-- and your desire to destroy the State to save the State --reminded me of his writing.

Again, as I say, you are no kirjuun of mine.

There is something of a tradition of Caldari struggling with one another to determine the right of things. We have done this since the warring pre-Raata guilds, through the scheming cartels of the Steel age, to the great machinations of the Deksam of today. That you choose to take this path is brave.

But brave paths are not always wise, and strong actions not always sensible.

You want us to find peace with the Matari - as do I - but then choose to attack us for it. You should know better than I how the Caldari react to the threat of violence.

You want us to take the honourable course, but the course of honour for us is to stand fast against adversity - the Gallente, the Matari, and the Jaalan Kirjuunet.

You point out the dearth of diplomacy and negotiation between us, and then add one more reason that we should not engage in such.

You claim to want to bring us greater freedom. I shudder to think of what your victory would bring the Caldari. Whatever it might be, it would be neither honour nor freedom.

Your speech twists in a strange wind, indeed.

Best of luck, sir. I fear that you'll need it.

You Caldari fight each other too much. It's kinda sad.

Seriously, take a note from the kids at Caille U. and try a communal drum circle sometime. Maybe with some soft music and a little incense, followed by airing your grievances with each other via free form poetry.

I was close to applauding your speech and commitment to the fight of the Minmatar Freedom Fighters, Mr. Toralen, until you revealed your misguided hatred of The Federation.

The Federation represents the hope of New Eden, it is the light in the darkness for billions upon billions of people. The Minmatar immigrants to The Federation know this, and their brethren fighting at the tip of the spear against oppression, slavery and for their Republic deserve our utmost respect.

Just another capsuleer following their own agenda, Pieter. Thinking of which, I hope to discuss yours with you in the future, should you have the time. It has been too long since I talked to my friends in PYRE, both members and ex-employees.

As for the main announcement, less spin and more substance would be a wise move. You've spit on your former nation, Toralen, but that is a trifling detail when you consider we are registered as politically autonomous anyway, by CONCORD decree. You seem to think that the Republic is worth fighting for, and to be honest, Slavery is something I find unpalatable myself, but ask yourself this - how much is this going to achieve for either stated goal?

Let's be pragmatic and honest about this, after all not all of us are so easily won over by freshman grade political prose. You're 'investing' in the Republic's CEWPA ratified militia. Spill a bit of blood, get a bit of scrip. It is good, honest work, but don't tarnish it with the bile-raising spit-shine of faux altruism.

Jaalan Kirjuunet is just a disingenuous way of saying Guristas. The very idea of dissident comrades is irreconcilable with the ideals of the State. Show some spine and call a spade a spade. You'll not be serving the State's interests shooting at her forces and the forces of her allies. For anyone with eyes, this is clearly a vainglorious attempt at publicity all while getting rich off the hard work of the Matari.

Lets put it straight, The Federation represents only evil and oppression of New Eden.

It is a light in the darkness only for human sewage, who can't find their place in civilized empires because of their misbehavior.

If a minmatar:
- can't respect tribal ways of ancestors to live among his kin
- can't respect beliefs of others and humility to respect authorities to live in the Empire
- can't work or just doesn't work hard enough to be competitive State citizen
such creature chooses Federation, because it can just exist there and do nothing...
