I am still very new to this game and I can tell you from personal experience it is not hard at all to recruit people if you are a small Corporation! :O Just use your noodle!

That is bad advice. Spies kill Fleets fast.
Having said that well known pilots tend to get into good alliances because the pilots in the good alliances know them or of them. Where as bad alliances don't know players from a bar of soap.
