The Jovian Mystery

Been some time since I actually began a discussion here. All good things come to and end, as they say.

So, in a departure from all normal business, I thought we could take a minute to consider a subject that has been conspicuously absent from current affairs.

It begs questions.

What happened to the Jove?

Are they still alive?

If they are dead, what happened?

If alive, are they still watching us?

Why, in either case, do we know so little? Is it possible to get an answer?

Any and all questions and answers, fire away. Let's get that ball rolling. As the popular saying goes: "Foil hat time".

What happened to the Jove? They wouldn't share their cookies with me, so I killed them.

Are they still alive? No

If they are dead, what happened? See answer #1

If alive, are they still watching us? Their dead, so no.

Why, in either case, do we know so little? Because after killing them I ransacked and destroyed all their stuff looking for that cookie recipe.

Is it possible to get an answer? No, and I'm sorry for that.

A little trust goes a long way. The less you use, the further you'll go.

Mr. Makari;

The simple truth is that we don't know, and are unlikely to know any time in the near future. It's clear that their history has something to do with the Sleepers-- who I believe are the 'Statics' that my old Jove briefings discussed --but beyond that ancient history, and the assumption that the Talocan are the precursors of those we'd call the 'Jove,' I'd say we know very little indeed. What I do feel is that whatever is happening involves the Sleepers, Rogue Drones, and Sanshas.

The possibilities are as such:

1) The Jove have become Sleepers themselves, to save themselves from the wasting disease; the Sansha are taking advantage of this and salvaging spoils.

2) The Jove have in fact all wasted away, and the Sansha have been salvaging spoils.

3) The Jove remain and continue to experiment with themselves and on us, in an attempt to stave off the disease; they are colluding with the Sanshas either as part of the experiment (using the Sanshas to harvest samples), or to fight the Sleepers.

4) The Jove have succumbed to a Sansha invasion, and are now either part of the Sanshas, or are besieged by Sanshas.

Of all of these, I feel that the second part of option four is preferable; because it means that they still resist, and that Jove technology won't be absorbed completely by the Sansha.

Mind, none of these options explain the strange occurrences we see with regard to Rogue Drones, or the seeming resemblance between Sleeper technology and some rogue drone hives.

In any case, I'll have to review my materials. I'm stuck in the office at the moment, and all of my reference material is stored as hardcopy with the DC57/Ascendency material in my hangar.

(edit: please note that references will be added following review of materials. Points of note; imagery of a Sansha fleet at a Jove station; similarities of Jove ships and certain Sleeper structures; apparent similarities between Rogue Drone hives and certain Sleeper structures; outside intervention in advanced artificial intelligences; Sleeper facilities under quarantine, with Talocan derelicts or other signs of invasion or raiding.)

I believe a recent article I published concerning the Jove can help in this discussion: Shrouded in mystery, the Jovian race

Concerning the current status of the Jovians, it's hard to guess, but we do know there's Sansha presence in Jove space, so no matter the angle, that's bad news for us.

Astute observations, but a thought occurs.

As I remember it (please do fact check me), the Jovian Prosper Vault incident was the last time any Jovian organisation made any official statement, the statement itself being that they had re-established total control and expelled the Sansha's fleet.

After that, total blackout, nothing.

Thoughts?

Hm. Mr. Makari, I've been trying to locate that release. Do you have a reference? The context may be useful.

Archived materials are somewhat unwieldy but I do have a few interesting bits:

((re: EVE Source-- seeing as there's an ingame item, I'd say yes. I just need to finish reading mine before Mak can say she's, y'know, plugged it in. >.> ))

Ms. Dusette; if you'll consult the news archives, you'll find Jove involvement in an advanced technology distribution scandal (advanced-tech mining lasers, specifically), and in a teleportation experiment accident. These are news from within the last decade, and so we certainly have existant record of their activities.

Mr. Makari; reviewing those entries, I don't see any statements by the Jove. Did I miss it? A new theory could be that CONCORD is aware that the Sanshas found nothing because CONCORD had already stripped the system, or the Jove had stripped it before... well, whatever they did?

Basically, I'm wondering when we last heard from a Jove representative, now.

The archives have lost some of the articles, but to my knowledge these are the most recent public contacts from an actual representative of their official government.

1st

2nd

3rd

4th

5th

Since then, they've been silent, at least publicly.

Hm. And there have been no other diplomatic envoys since? So-- last confirmed word is YC106, with the Prosper Vault crisis in YC111?

Hm. Researching.

This might help, the last known sighting of a Jove ship was in YC 109, but not much attention has been given to this sighting as it was in nullsec:

Video footage of a Jove Battleship passing through a gatecamp

The Jove ship passes a nullsec gatecamp, without being visibly affected, no further info available.
No known events are linked to this encounter, so perhaps a Jove ship that 'lost' it's way? After all, we know little of their methods of transportation, as the gates between the Jove Empire and us are closed.

Ah, such a pity, I had hoped you would gift us with your self evident and infinitely vast knowledge in the form of an inspired and groundbreaking revelation.

Instead we get pompous sniping.

Truly, doing your part for the betterment of humanity. I applaud you.

Now, moving swiftly on.

There was something else I recalled, and I found some old material to help.

https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Nation_war_of_resurgence#The_Jove_Angle

It seems the Nation managed to capture a Jovian friagate, along with a Cartesian Temporal Coordinator.

Something else, if anyone gets a chance, the old Arek'jaalan archives might be worth a look. Having a rummage right now.
