It wasnt "leveling" up, as far as they started with a massive boosts to their stats, which were arbitrarily tooken away. the fact that they STARTED with an advantage

What does the attribute boost mean? They're not swinging a sword based on the attribute or calculating damage from it. The attributes also have no in-game advantage. They don't automatically earn you more ISK, more items, or make you a better pilot. EVE has no vertical progression, and your friend doesn't seem to have understood it.

I think this reddit post describes very well what EVE is like. I would suggest that your friend read it:

I think what a lot of new players miss is that it would take 20 plus years to get all skills to V.

The "awesome single high XP character" people are used to in other games is not that great in EVE and the use of specialist alts is pretty much built into the game mechanic. If you need to fly a DST you train an alt for it, not waste a month of your mains training, if you want to mine you create an alt for it not waste two months of your mains time.

I have to agree. I think a more elegant solution would have been to increase the amount of beginner skills, maybe throw Destroyer and Cruiser in there instead.

It could open up for a "larger ships" tutorial line of missions, as well.

A better solution would be give some bonus unallocated SP on first sub.

As it is you only need about 12 hours or so to be awoxing the ever living **** out of corps in a gnosis, even less to be ganking in a t1 cat. Lets make it even easier \o/.

Someone not understanding the game or how to effectively train their character doesn't indicate any problem with the game. And even if you think it does, the character bazaar and some RL cash can buy you a skilled pilot and ship. Although, we all know how that one ends.

Why can't people just take the time to learn the game? The first few months are formative in my opinion, new players should take that time to decide whether this masochistic niche game is for them. Doing anything worthwhile in Eve takes a lot of time and patience. You do new players no favor by deluding them about this fact from the outset.

The instant gratification crowd won't be happy until you can purchase SP for aurum, I swear to God.

Speaking as a suicide ganker and an awoxer, I highly agree.

One of ours, ten of theirs.

Best Meltdown Ever.

I think this a very appropriate place to quote Malcanis' Law:

"Whenever a mechanics change is proposed on behalf of ‘new players’, that change is always to the overwhelming advantage of richer, older players."
