So the wife is a type 1 diabetic and got diagnosed with gastroparesis awhile back. She's applying for disability this week, as she just seems to be getting worse. Was just wondering if anyone here has any experience with this, and if so-

1. Any tips on dealing with the insurance company for the disability claim?

2. Any good recipes that I can make for her that doesn't get her stomach all bent out of shape?

Thanks in advance for any helpful info

high levels of blood glucose may affect chemical changes in the nerves.[1] The vagus nerve becomes damaged by years of high blood glucose or insufficient transport of glucose into cells resulting in gastroparesis.

So I think that she have to take those medications that keep level of glucose below risk margin, also foods that have high glycemic index are prohibited in a diet http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycemic_index and eating small meals but often is better than eating big meals but less often. That will save the nerve from further damage. My mom have type 1 diabetes, but she do not have gastroparesis because of rather fast diagnosis.

you will want to have more fruits and veggies and avoid a lot of the complex stuff. So you need to skip on anything fried and excessive salty foods like ham.

If you cook stuff in oil use an olive oil, umm no more drinking, and keep all sodas out of the diet.

Why Can't I have a picture signature.

Also please support graphical immersion, bring back the art that brought people to EvE online originaly.

Um, not really. Fiber and fat are the enemies, anything that will clog up the pipes. Veggies have to be cooked to near mush, and most (not all) fresh fruit and nuts are out. No more salads, bacon, peanut butter, cut way back on the cheese, all the good stuff. Sad

She got into my "Great Grains" cereal a week or two ago (I don't know why, she knows better), and we almost had to make another run to the emergency room.

Anyway, we know what we got and what we're supposed to do. Was just looking for recipes to keep from getting the menu stuck in a rut. Thanks for the replies!

I hate to say it, but might as well gear up for a long campaign versus your insurance company. Reading the policy probably won't help, those things are finely-crafted to be completely vague and unintelligible. Calling to check coverage before getting the treatment helps. And calling after you get the confusing bill helps more. Sometimes make a determination that "whoops, you were covered after all." The scumbags. Smile

I don't know much about diabetes, but when my mom had a terminal illness, taking probiotics really made her feel better. Apparently the replace fauna in the digestive system. Food is digested more easily and completely, and you get more complete nutrition from it. My was pretty doubtful taking some trendy New Agey holostic thing, but it turned out to be the one thing that really made her feel noticeably stronger and healthier.

Lol I have to tease you as it is indeed called "intestinal flora".

Probiotics unfortunately would not help solving stomach paralysis. Maybe electrostimulation of the nerves, something similar to what they do with those guys.

But these "flora" tend to be actual bacteria, which is indeed "fauna". I need to find out what's up with that.......

"Flora" refers to plant or bacterial life.

In summary: Bacteria in the gut are not animals and most don't use oxygen.
