1. Use Dotlan to find others if there are some.

2. To play your game > Easy access to low/null for instance / relative lower resident count.

3. Likely not as much as general high-sec, because the general high-sec player is too afraid to move through low/null to any island and thus stays in the general high-sec systems. Though you might find that some low/null residents use the systems.

4. Can't judge markets as I haven't visited them all and those I did visit is a long long time ago. But you need to some how import the stuff (either yourself or through outsourcing it to others).

Are you looking for a highsec island surrounded by lowsec, or a lowsec island surrounded by nullsec?

I knew a group of industrialists to live on one. The idea was it provided a "safe" place to mine, easy access to lowsec moons for POSs, and very fast travel via cyno/jump freighter.

With good reason, most of the time. Assuming there's a gate camp in every system that's NOT highsec probably saves people a fair amount of ISK.

Issue is that 90% of the time, it's not there.

And not like there aren't tools to help you, or did CCP delete the in game map and did Dotlan go offline?

I used to believe gatecamps were that common.

Fact is they are not close to it. But, the ones that attract camps are often some of the first ones a high sec resident will encounter.

This is very true. If you are having trouble getting into low sec due to gate camps simply try a different area. Many regions are quite dead and you'll have no problem passing through them. Gate camps are typically near high sec systems or in narrow "pipes" (systems that only connect to each other so you are forced to travel a specific route).

I always recommend people that have little or no lowsec experience explore Solitude (the region) in a cruiser or smaller ship and in a clone you do not mind being podded in (i.e. jump clone to a clean clone, then plug in +3 implants in the two attributes for the skill you are training *right now*).

If you explore properly, you will lose your ship eventually, but it will take quite a while and you'll learn from *where* you lose it. It's unlikely to be at a gate or station.

Solitude doesn't really have any compelling reason to go there (it's not a production hub, a trade hub, a PVE hub or a transit pipe), so it tends to be very sparsely populated.

I live in fairly populated low sec area (Amarr vs Minmatar) and I've got to say low sec is nothing compared to high sec when it comes to gate camps.

You see - our gate camps can be attacked so they do not hang around same system all the time. There are also better things to do so they eventually get bored and look for some other activity.

Seriously - if there's a scary place in eve a man cannot defend itself in it's the high sec. It's like democrats' paradise.
