Patch Killed my internet

So the EVE client installed some minor patch today (4-2-2014) and then my internet promptly decided to stop working. I thought it was my network, so I was fiddling around there for about an hour, and but no internet pages were loading (in all 3 browsers I use) even though I was showing as connected to my wireless network.

Tried the eve repair tool, but you need an internet connection for that. So I uninstalled EVE and voila, here I am posting this.

I'd rage quit like I did World of Tanks when **** like this happened all the time, but I've plexed up for a couple months so I'd like to continue playing. If your game can somehow not destroy my internet connection, that would be awesome.

No, I don't' feel like posting all my specifics or linking weird technical files on my computer or crap like that. I want to fly internet spaceships, not work in IT. But I will say this is a standard off the shelf windows XP laptop. No fancy mods (aside from a nvidia graphics card).

Is it XP? Do I need to upgrade OS? Or is this problem on your end? And does anyone else get socket closed errors at completely random and frustrating times? Sometimes never, sometimes every 10 minutes?

Maybe unrelated, but didn't Microsoft stop updating/supporting XP officially really recently, like this month? I know XP was WAY better than any of today's windows OS's, but it's time to move on. Win7 seems to work well enough on it's own (currently using an ASUS desktop with win7 64bit home premium), though people tell me win8 is kinda crap right now. Can't say is vista is even worth it. It was completely butt when I tried it some years back, though.
