Why did they ever get rid of Armageddon day? I never did understand the reason. Yes, bring it back. One day is not the end of the world.

Because Armageddon day NEVER EXISTED!
It was an expansion day that they were late getting TQ on so they redirected the main client to Sisi. Really, reading comprehension. This has already been said several times in this thread.
If you want it, just get a few hundred people to log onto Sisi at once.

I never mentioned anything about TQ... Yes Reading comprehension already... P

Yes you did, when you asked why they got rid of Armageddon Day.

Didn't miss much.

It is good to have substance to one's existence.  But in the absence of substance, one can do much yet with style.

Actually no. TQ was being moved to a new server cluster and after they copied the databases they set the sec level on all systems on the old cluster to null sec. Maybe they disallowed bombs (if they even existed back then) and bubbles, not sure - I don't remember seeing any. The server was left in this state for a day I think, after that the new cluster took over on the old databases.
So there was this day, and it had been dubbed Armageddon Day by the devs, but it played no importance since it was acting with stale data anyway.

I was hoping it would bring some fun fights, but basically people were just camping station undocks and gates full time. Bring out anything bigger than a frigate and it got blown up in a jiffy.

Overall I found it excessively boring and changed to another game after escaping the x-th gate camp.

IIRC the devs afterwards stated a similar sentiment (although I am not sure why they came to that conclusion) and said it would never happen again.

Nowadays it only exists in threads of people who want to feel like l33t PvPers when they blow up highly dangerous mining barges.

Armageddon day also had everything on the market seeded like on singularity, everything for 100 isk and unlimited amounts in every station. Otherwise it wouldn't actually have been possible to do in any feasible way.

It was a neat pre-release event, but it wouldn't work now. You'd be risking the destabilization of the entire game, even if the event would be just one day the ramifications for the period after are huge.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

No...it would only be fun for people who have played this game for years who could come in and stomp us new players who don't stand a snowball's chance in hell of surviving this kind of event.

Same old bullshit excuse. Been PvPing since Day 1, got my first kill against a character who was a year older than I was. You don't need to have the skill points to be better, you just need to have the balls and an attitude to do something. And if you lose your ship? Not the end of the world.

I really, really want to start hunting you carebears down and popping your little ships just for ***** and giggles.

This is easily one of the dumber responses I have seen in a while. I call complete BS that you were 'PvPing since Day 1'. Unless your day 1 was eight years ago when you didn't have such huge gaps in skillpoints. You also do realize that ganking someone as a newbie is completely different than going into an all out warzone like this would be, don't you? We are talking about turning high sec into null sec hundred to thousand person battles, not ganking someone afk mining in a backwater system (like I imagine your 'day one PvP' was)

And it is pretty ridiculous to talk about someone having balls in a video game. It is just a game. It takes balls to do something in the real world. It is slightly sad to think it takes balls or attitude to do anything in a video game. You want to show you have balls? Do something in the real world and tell us about it.

The idea of 'carebears' is pretty dumb. I do PvP, and love it. I have never played a single MMO without being on a PvP server. That doesn't mean I want to do it 24/7. You start paying my sub fee for me and you are more than welcome to tell me how to play, mmkay tiger?

edit: reading how it happened before (on a test server with everyone given SPs, etc) I would be 100% for it and it would be a blast. Doing it with characters in production is the bad part of the idea.

Sadly, this sort of thing is likely to never happen - I played WoW back when the Zombie Plague occured, and the screeching from PvE players that their valuable NPC killing, and their idling near traders was interrupted for a week, became unbearable after only the first day (and this being a game where death cost you nothing) - here, where deaths cause actual loss, the immediate backlash would be 100 times worse.

Please don't dash our hopes like this. I love the screeching of PVEers.

How about setting it up on Sisi. It could be a huge advertised event bringing in new players. CCP could get a bonanza free of publicity. It would also be an excellent time to upgrade/maintain TQ which wont be used during the event.

Replicatte the TQ db over.
Make the changes to system sec status and server settings.
Seed the markets.
Heck give everyone max skills and a few trillion ISK.
Point the launcher to login everyone to Sisi Sat morning startup.
Schedule TQ upgrades and maintenance.
Let everyone enjoy themselves Sat and possibly Sun.
Monday startup reverts back to TQ and nothing has changed since friday.
Everyone can enjoy the event with absolutely no losses whatsoever.

Yeah I know someone would find something to whine about. This solution would seem to be the best alternative though. You can have your Armageddon day. Carebears can't complaing about being slaughtered ans losing all their assets (Well at least it will be a level playing field). CCP gets some needed alone time with their hamsters.

To those asking for this:

You don't need ccp to create an event for you. If you really want an armaggedon just get your arse out of high sec and move to Curse or whatever. I guess you won't, because high sec if full of pussies with a big mouth. Miners, mercs, whatever. All the same kind.

Who would like to see this brought back for a day or maybe a whole weekend?

Not forever, just a special event CCP could hype beforehand. I know people will still complain. But hey, it would only be for a day or two. You don't like it stay docked. It could be the little "push" some would need to venture into the PVP world.

Thoughts?

Why is it stupid, hm? Let me explain to you why you and your ilk think my claim is stupid.

You think it's stupid because, if evidence was presented, it would mean that your claims of being at a natural disadvantage concerning skillpoints are false, and they the only thing holding you back is yourself. You justify your claims with excuses that have habitually been proven to be false on numerous occasions, but you hold to it anyways because you can't fathom the concept that smart PvP is a far better way to obtain kills rather than relying on Caldari Cruiser V and Recon V for your Falcon alt.

Day 1, I joined Caldari militia on my first character. Flying a T1-fit Kestral, I acted as fast-tackle for my fleet, who then proceeded to demolish a Rattlesnake. Five people against a single Rattlesnake, all of us in T1 cruisers or below. We did this in low sec, in faction warfare no less. We then went on and killed two more before calling the fleet.

This wasn't in high sec where it's a gankers dream and high sec wardecs, or null-sec where you cyno in something. IT was low-sec, where at the time PvP was pretty decent, and the players were equally as good.

Since then, I have trained my second character and bought two others. The one posting this is one of the bought characters. But that hasn't changed anything in terms of how I view PvP in this game. If you want to see some of the kills I made on one of the characters I have had since I started playing, feel free to look up Quendishir on the killboards.

I have been instrumental in training rookie and new pilots in the form of intelligent PvP tactics. I don't teach them to blob, or to engage willy-nilly. I taught them how to pick their targets properly, to stalk them, and then when everything is set, to pounce and get the kill. Some of those pilots have gone off to be great PvPers, even when they couldn't fly better than Interceptors before the nerf. What matters is that people learn and not make excuses like you are.

You and your carebear ilk are a cancer, simple as that. Once again, you should be excised and discarded.

Leadership is something you learn. Maybe one day, you'll learn that.

You can already do that.
It's not called Armageddon Day and it's not for a weekend.
It's been in the game forever.
It's called "Going into lowsec/ 0.0/ w-space".

Making an entire group of people, people who are responsible for keeping the economy of this game afloat no less, out for a deadly disease is hardly chivalrous, is it.

Unless you somehow expect this game's economy to survive with no carebearing whatsoever.

I was legitimately unaware that carebears can't PvP at all, and as such should be coddled to the maximumest* extent possible by CCP.
