Edited my previous reply, as it was posted in a very emotional state.

While I'm dissapointed in Pyre, a corporation I held in high regard concerning their duty in faction Warfare, I'll reserve any final judgement for Pieter Tuulinen till I speak with him. After all, he did unveil this piece of information in public.

I do add this: I don't condone any deals made with an entity that is not only an enemy of the State, but of all free-willed people.

With Pyre's departure from militia service, I too have questions I wish to ask Pieter. And Pieter alone. The rest of Pyre speaks enough by willfully dropping the flag of the State that I don't care whether they wind up lobotomized by Nation, or shot as pirates.

Pieter, step back. If you're even halfway as tired of trying to justify your actions to this kangaroo court as I am then it's simply better to concentrate on the things you can help change in the warzone.

None of these people know me, none of them have cared to try and yet I am judged and ostracized by some pervasive moral code that tells me how I should behave as a Patriot. You said it yourself, Pieter:

The rest of you, weak willed lickspittles to the monster of public opinion; All you need to know is that Pyre Falcon do our duty to the State and it's people. We look after them. Feign insult and indignation if you must, after all your popularity in this circus is so important, but know that it will not stop us doing everything within our power to secure the safety of State citizen the cluster over. If that means we must make the hard decisions to deal with people your moral codes forbid you to, so be it.

I'd be genuinely interested to hear what realistic propositions the rest of you have to return these people safe and unharmed from nation. Better yet, please tell us what you are actually doing to secure these people's futures.

Here's my take on it:

Where do they come from? If they're civilians & militia captured by Nation, you only assist an enemy in the State in strengthening themselves as they lose nothing in the trade, only exchanging PoW they just captured for pirate crew.

If their origin is from Gallente prisoncamps, same deal, eliminate the middle men (Sansha) and liberate them from the prisoncamps, you'll create much more loyal caldari citizens that way.
On top of that, considering the way the Feds treat their POW, you can expose it to the gallente media, bring some reporter along to show how they're treated, turn the system against them! Should help putting some wind out the sails of the Black Eagles control over those prisoncamps, making life a bit more bearable for those still imprisoned.

We know from Slave Tama01 & Citizen Astur how Nation categorizes their captives / 'liberated civilians'. The most promising ones end up as Slaves. Those who are of use due to a variety of reasons get cloned en masse to serve as crew. And finally, those who are unsuitable get recycled into biomass for the clones.
Undoubtly, Sansha would only trade those 'unsuitable' civilians back, in exchange for pirate crew that might contain promising or usable people... So in the end, Pyre's agreement just serves as a way to strengthen Nation.

The major dilemma we face is this: is the safe retrieval of (possibly infected) civilians worth to strengthen Nation? In my opinion, how harshly it sounds, the answer is no.
On short term, saving them by exchanging for criminals does look like the best course of action, but on the long term it only helps Nation in accumulating better individuals at a slightly accelerated rate without any additional costs.

Lets ask a question in return, would you strengthen the Federation if you could recover POW from them in exchange? Note I specifically say strengthen, because that's what the trade means for Nation, they get a chance for more suitable members in exchange for the 'useless chaff' they can only use as biomass.

Wow.

I don't think I've ever completely lost respect for an entire organisation and every individual associated with it so quickly or nonchalantly before.

I know, it's just like that time a reasonably famous Intaki pilot, decorated for actions in the Federal Defence Union, offered Amarr prisoners of war to the Blood Raider Covenant.

I don't think it's nice that people are coming down so hard on Pyre. I mean, it's obvious they're just incapable of taking back what's rightfully theirs from the Nation (or perhaps just too afraid to try) and are resorting to the only method available to them.

But hey, these are hardcore Caldari fighters who ain't afraid o' nothin', so I'm sure the day will come when a TSF dissident/incompetent removes pretty much every obstacle and threat for these brave warriors, who will swoop in, take out what little resistance there is left, save the prisoners, and let everyone know how awesome they are for it.

Until that day comes, why add insult to injury?

In Tuulinen's sort of defence, he did try and blow the whistle on the entire situation several months ago by letting Jurou Yuan know when an exchange was taking place, although I really don't think that he was expecting him to take employment with TS-F shortly after.

I imagine that was rather unfortunate.

In any case, I prefer ships of Amarrian or Caldari design, although the Republic Navy's decision to bring the Tempest into the modern age is certainly visually impressive, if a little lacking on the configuration side of things.

For obvious reasons PFDC will not share information to the public it considers of importance to operational security by default. This really is none of your business, but since speculations are, as usual, running wild I've been authorized by the board to make the following clarification:

Elements picked up after contact with hostiles are subject to state laws and will be, whenever possible, handed over to the authorities or, protected by the same set of laws and upon deliberate approval, moved as penal labour workforce to a model facility in the Kingdom. Only elements not protected under state laws or waiting for their firing squad would be eligible for an exchange such as the one being condemned here.

PFDC continues to operate with the greater good of the caldari state and its subjects in its mind, which forms the solid basis for all decisions made in the past and future, and elements disagreeing are not going to change the course as public opinion is not and never will be the basis for decisions made.

Be it as it may you are all welcome to indulge yourselves in conjecture and condemn us some more - it will not change the fact that we're not afraid to get our hands dirty to achieve results.

You know, we might be open to the idea of making similar trades with other groups as well assuming that it does not conflict with our previous arrangement with Pyre Falcon. Assuming any of you can swallow your smug attempts at moral superiority in order to understand that we CAN be dealt with on an honest basis.

I'll say this for Pyre Falcon. They have probably collected more Caldari assets from us than any of you have put together for your own races. We are an eminently rational group, and we respond well to offers made with that in mind.

And I will say this for us. Whenever we maintain battlefield control after a skirmish or a battle, we take the time to go through your ships and rescue anyone we can. We medically treat them. We feed and clothe them. The fact that we CAN return them to Pyre Falcon afterwards shows that they are not immediately assimilated into Nation. Do you want your people back? Then lets make a deal.

Do you want your people back from Pyre Falcon? Then you need to be talking to them.

Swallow your pride, Capsuleers, and start dealing with politics, because until such time as we make politics an anachronism, they're pretty much a fact of life.

My sister Danika and I have always flown vessels built with proven Caldari engineering.

I find a certain simplicity and dependability in shields, along with missiles, which provide versatility as a weapon.

This was almost exclusive until recently. Having since began work for a new employer we've found ourselves in the position where we need to drastically diversify our piloting skills because of doctrine. Thus today you could find us piloting vessels from almost all of the Empires, and those of the various factions inbetween.

In the past we've always held a singular-skill doctrine within our family's operations. Pilots will specialize in a 'brand' of vessel and continue to refine those skills over time rather than branch out into other 'brands'. While this naturally limits the pilot's versatility it does however produce ones who're very highly skilled in their individual ship preferences.

My Tengus have always been my bread and butter, but as I write this post via my comm I'm sitting in a relatively new Proteus. It kinda feels so wrong, but also feels so right, because in all honesty I've found these things to be incredibly tough when either dealing, or receiving, damage. It does take some getting used too though.

I am a loyal Gallentean, however I fly the right ship for the job. Need to control my range? Lasers are the best. Need to kill in one hit? Artillery baby! Can't afford to miss? Missiles away!

And when I need to tear your ship apart on the molecular level, Blasters and Drones... my favorite *hugs hobgoblin plushie*

At the end of the day, selecting the right tool for the right job is key. If you let either your patriotism or your bigotry limit your ship choices, then your key wont fit the right lock.
