Should be interesting to watch

Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.  - William Pitt

Not to shoot you down, but Aura is the tutorial character, Aurum is Latin for gold (Gold having the chemical notification of Au for that reason), and aurora is the northern (Or southern) lights, where solar particles interact with Earths magnetic field or some such.
I don't know if Aura comes from Aurum.
Aurum, as in the CCP microtransaction currency, certainly does.

Aurora has a vastly different etymology.

Maybe CCP had a hand in this bitcoin or whatever, maybe they didn't, but from what you wrote the only link would be their Icelandic origins.

Indeed, if you analyze and compare the expressions at their face value. What I was alluding to was subliminal messaging/suggestion.
Similar sounding words that resulted from an exposure to a certain environment.

You sometimes see this effect if you pay attention in the forum threads, in terms of words/vocabulary utilized. There was an interesting documentary which tested artists (sculptors/drawings?) by planting innocuous subliminal messages on their route to a certain destination. At the end of their journey, they were asked to model/draw? whatever pops into their mind. The researchers found out that elements from these planted messages showed up in their works under various different forms. Sorry, I cba to dig for the link, would be like looking for a needle in the haystack now P

Yeah Auroracoin unsurprisingly tanked, kinda like Iceland's Krona (their currency) only this time it accomplished what took decades for the Krona in 10 days.

Also, here's the currency denominations with year of introduction.

Icelandic Krona - ISK (1874)
Intersteller Kredits - ISK (2003)
Aurum - AUR (2011)
Auroracoin - AUR (2013)

It's interesting that they share the same denomination AUR. It is very plausible that CCP had a hand in this considering there's only 330,000 people in Iceland. They have the technical capabilities as well as logistical power to field the massive computing power that was necessary to pre-mine Auroracoin. It was a gamble to stimulate their economy that doesn't seem to have paid off, at least not yet. Only 9.12% of the coins have been claimed. That would translate to around 36,000 people who have claimed so far, which is actually a pretty good outcome for something as obscure as cryptocurrencies.

Would be cool to hear from an Icelandic player's perspective.
