double posting, I know - but I've just seen the 4-way chess set - all you need is extra edges that clip onto the main board
easy all-in-one set

For posting an idea into F&I: come up with idea, try and think how people could abuse this, try to fix your idea - loop the process until you can't see how it could be abused, then post to the forums to let us figure out how to abuse it..... If your idea can be abused, it [u]WILL[/u] be.

Shogi would be really interesting, but aren't the look of the pieces one of the defining aspects of shogi? To be completely honest I don't know if there's a history of shogi pieces coming in different shapes.

I'm not a purist so I put the look of the pieces down to matter of taste or aesthetics. As for the promotion, that could be a bit of a dilemma. Maybe a separate piece that replaces the non-promoted piece? I don't think there's enough ship models that could be just flipped upside down and still look good. Maybe it could be solved by just having regular shaped shogi pieces but with ships painted on them? Well, I'm sure CCP can solve this little puzzle for us :)

Like regular chess? Each player get's to make one move at a time on his/her/its turn.

I've actually been thinking about the whole promotion issue and I also think regular shape pieces with the ship image would be the best idea. Then on the promoted side you could a T2 ship. Here's how I'd imagine the piece images (with Gallente).

King: Moros
Rook: Megathron
Rook+: Kronos
Bishop: Myrmidon
Bishop+: Eos
Gold General:Proteus
Silver General: Vexor
Silver General+: Ishtar
Knight: Thorax
Knight+: Deimos
Lance: Catalyst
Lance+: Eris
Pawn: Incursus
Pawn+: Enyo

I would buy a nice quality EVE chess set. For that reason, CCP can't do this for like at least a year. Blew too much money on EVE itself, the Collector's Edition, and Source.

Used to be an avid chess player, and even though i haven't played in over two years i would buy an Amarr-Minmatar set so long as it wasn't more than 60 dollars or so. That being said, i would probably pay more depending on the quality.

my issue with 3-way chess is that one of the players would be in an unequal starting position, unless you made an isometric board...... which could be VERY interesting

But to build on what others have been saying. I would buy this in a heartbeat IF the quality was great. I'm talking highly polished, robust material and an equally impressive chess board. If the quality looks or feels cheap then it's just a waste for CCP. As for the chessboard, give us the standard board with squares except imprint the image of a solar system (Sun, asteroid belts, solar winds, etc). You give me that and I will drop $50 right now.

For the comments about the 3-player chess board, it's not known enough to market it. That is a very niche market and wouldn't be worth extra effort or prices associated with selling it.


I haven't been to fanfest as it's a bit out of price range, but I do remember watching the Chess-Boxing matches. I'm not sure if they still have the matches, but what a perfect reason to a) start doing those again and b) have the chess sets available. Also, free marketing of the product with a lot of interested viewers Idea

With that spiky bit on it the Incursus/Enyo would be a perfect fit for the lance piece. Then again the other races don't have a similar looking ship so...

Maybe rook and bishop should both be battleships? Then GG would be a battlecruiser, SG a T3 cruiser and knight a T1 cruiser. Mmmm, choices choices.ShockedQuestionShockedWhat?

My idea of a Caldari chess pieces btw:


1 king: Pheonix. (isn't this the most perfect match? Both quite useless but also valuable Lol).
1 queen: Raven.
2 rooks: Rohk and Scorpion.
2 bishops Drake and Ferox
2 knights Caracal and Moa.
8 pawns: 2 Merlin, 2 Kesterl, 2 Griffin, 2 Heron.

Sorry, no room for the Naga, Bantam and Destroyers. But I think this covers it pretty good. You'll notice, its all T1.
