Last fanfest we got to witness a smartphone and a tablet with eve ships spinning around in space. HAve there been any more word about this, as to what we will be able to do in the mobile client as well as when it's expected to be released. I for one long for the day when I can play eve on my phone.

Ah... Not quite what I had in mind but I see your point. Does it work well? I get the feeling it'll be kind of unresponsive and slow.

If you have a *cough*jailbroken*cough* iPhone, in the Cydia repositories there's a little program, a tech-demo I suppose, that lets you view/rotate/spin 3D models at your will. Pretty sure you can add new models via Telnet/whatever they use to put files on iPhones these days.
Export EVE ship models+textures with TriExporter > Load them into app on iPhone > Spin ships whilst you're meant to be working! Big smile

well, they were waving around some kind of small tablet, kind of phone looking. They never actually said a word about it, except that Hilmar wanted to keep it.

All they did was demonstrate the graphics power of the Tesla 2 GPU.

well that's disappointing. So you mean they're actually not going to use it for some eve application?

if a full blown desktop computer lags out while playing eve, how do you expect a phone or tablet to play it

can you imagine the gnashing of teeth that would occur when the first 700 dollar ipad melts from GPU overload while running CQ

I don't know what kind of computer you're using. But my computer runs eve perfectly fine, and I'm the graphics could be lowered even further to suit a phone. Also, I don't think Incarna would work very well considering the lack of mouse and keyboard on a phone, so perhaps cut that out too.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was possible to run eve on existing phones, just use less detailed graphics and it is probably possible

I, for one, would love an expansion to the iPhone "EVE Universe" app that would let us view spin-able models on our iPhones Big smile

Maybe we will never play EVE on a tablet or phone. But being able to view our ships, with their current fits in all of their spin-able glory during meetings and other boring times, would be like a dream come true. Or maybe we could just view them through the same interface that lets you spin ships in a little window directly from the market.
