Why doesnt CCP release the source of EVE?

It would be interesting to get some meta-data on the codebase though. How big the source code is, how much is written in what languages. Just interesting facts you can't really use in any way.

A release of the source code itself is of course out of the question. It's their intellectual property and they have a right to use it for their own commercial gain without releasing it to anyone else. In this case it would pretty much destroy everything that makes this game what it is because if these player-made changes even functioned at all in the server environment, any notion of balance would be absolutely destroyed. Things would probably get chaotic and most people would stop playing the game completely.

Why not leave your front door open when you leave your house for the week. Put a sign up in your front yard asking your neighbors to help you "Remodel & Improve" your house.
